I’m a teacher and was in work on Monday. During the evening my throat began to feel a little scratchy, as if I was getting a cold). Tuesday morning when I first got up I had a bit of a cough. The kind of cough I do get in the mornings sometimes.

The cough has been on and off (mostly off) since then. Just really first thing in the morning and bed time.
I have had no temperature and don’t feel unwell in any way.
I am due in to work again tomorrow (7days from start of cough). Am I ok to go in even if I still have a tickle in my chest?

Yes.

If you’re coughing, no. You need to self isolate for either 7 or 14 days depending on if you live alone (7) or with others (14).

You school should have a rota of staff on back up for people who need to stay home. This won’t be unexpected to them!

Yes you are fine to go in as you are 7 days since the symptoms started. The cough can carry on for some weeks but you are fine to go back to work after 7 days isolation.

The advice to someone with symptoms is to stay home for 7 days. Others in your household will have to do 14. Seems like you have done your 7 days.

I went back to work on day 10, having had a mild cough. Because I had to talk more it triggered the cough again and made it worse.

Can you contact the head today to explain? No one will want you there coughing, maybe they could swap people and put you on for Friday instead?
