I have a few supermarkets local to me, asda, tesco, aldi, lidl, m&s food court and sainsburys. Which would be the best to attempt? I really dont want to go but want a decent chance of getting what I need. The last time I went shelves were empty!
I have an online slot booked for friday but hardly anything in stock when I'm trying to add things to my basket. Has anyone been to the supermarket this weekend.. how was it?

@Woman31 Where abouts in the country do you live?

CodenameVillanelle · 29/03/2020 09:58

I went to Sainsbury's yesterday and it was fine. Queue to get in but it moved fast and most of the shelves were well stocked, no issues at all.

I had no problem with the atmosphere when I went supermarket shopping yesterday. It was certainly a lot quieter than usual, but people were just getting on with things, being reasonably considerate about social distancing, and actually there was a bit of chatting going on in the stretched out queue for payment - which is definitely unusual round here.

I went to our local large Tesco after work on Friday, I was expecting not to be able to get everything, have to queue to get in etc.

I was pleasantly surprised. I got everything I needed except hand wash, no queue to get in and only a short queue to pay. This was at about 5.45pm. I was so excited I spent about the same as I would at Christmas! I won’t have to get much the next couple of weeks!

Disclaimer, I didn’t panic but lots of one type of essential item, I just brought more of a variety of stuff than I normally would and intend on only doing top up shops for the next couple of weeks.

I have found m and s great. I would normally not spend so much on meat, dairy, and veg- but the shop is empty and the food great. Most people think of it for ready meals and stop after work. With most work and shops closed it had everything but flour.

Has anyone been able to get antibacterial wipes from anywhere? Haven't been able to find any for weeks now

AvocadoPrime · 29/03/2020 12:58

I went to aldi and it was lovely in fairness. Limited number in. People keeping their distance. I got everything we needed so I can cancel my online shop. No antibacterial wipes that I could see.

I managed to get some from Aldi yestefaub

Wunderweb · 29/03/2020 15:36

Are we allowed to buy non foodstuffs from the big Tesco or Morrisons? Children will need bigger shoes and clothes if this continues for a while.
If retail clothes shops are shut and Next isn’t delivering what other online stores would you suggest?

userxx · 29/03/2020 15:40

@Woman31 wow!! I might nip down to your Aldi, that looks a lot more inviting. How long do you think it will take from Manchester 🤣

AvocadoPrime · 29/03/2020 16:58

@Wunderweb yes I presume so! I cant see why not as the whole shops are open. You can also buy online still from most stores.
