Is anyone else imagining a cough that (hopefully) isn't there?

I'm early in pregnancy and especially concerned about the first trimester as we don't yet know how it may affect a developing baby, and obviously there's a risk of having a temperature at this point. I know the risk to me would be higher later if (hopefully) pregnancy continues.

None of us have been ill other than various illnesses last month probably bought in by DC1 (a vomiting bug in February, sinus infection beginning of March, some other achy virus in early Feb that didn't have a cough etc)

Since I've found out I was pregnant we've all touch wood been healthy, and I feel great except nausea and what I think is an imagined tickle in the lungs.

I haven't ever had to cough other than the odd time I've tried an exploratory cough, and I'm pretty sure my lungs feel strange entirely because I'm focusing on them and thinking about it.

I'm so worried I'm asymptomatic and there's a hidden cough there but I think I'm being daft.

I'll probably get this in a few weeks and be very ill and laugh at myself thinking I could have it now for a sort of maybe imagined slight tickle feeling that doesn't even produce a cough, but if I can get past twelve weeks first (and ideally even 20) I think I'll feel less worried.

Anyone else?

Yes, both dh and I are doing random throat clearing coughs and scaring each other! It's not a persistent cough, it's like a trial cough to see if anything is there. I'm hoping it's just overthinking or a general regular type of cold.
Congratulations Thanks

Isitacoughorisitmyhead · 29/03/2020 09:40

Thank you. I just don't know what to think!

I do feel like something is there, but it has been for a week and never amounted to enough to cause a cough! It's probably entirely in my head

If you've had it for a week with no progression I should think it's highly unlikely to be anything.
Do something to take your mind off it.

I'm in the very vulnerable category and taking heart meds which give me a bit of a tickly cough.....I have a wobble about it most days, so you have my sympathies.

AlpineSnow · 29/03/2020 09:49

Yes I've had psychosomatic symptoms from time to time that disappear overnight

redcarbluecar · 29/03/2020 09:50

I’m worrying myself a bit about a cough that normally wouldn’t concern me at all. It’s sort of tickly and sporadic, worse in the afternoons than mornings. Comes on the back of a slight cold so hopefully just related to that. We’re in strange times where these symptoms are so worrying. Hope you’re ok OP

ToTheWindow · 29/03/2020 09:50

Yes. I keep thinking that I can't breath in proper and my throat is sore, any other time I wouldn't even give it a thought.

notagaincharlie · 29/03/2020 09:56

I also randomly get hot and cold, which is probably more menopausal than CV.

OldUnit · 29/03/2020 10:11

Yes I think we've all a heightened sense of awareness right now. I woke up to go to the bathroom last night and felt absolutely horrific, hot, shaky, weak.....I fell asleep again thinking 'well if it's the Covids I'll know by morning'. Woke up feeling absolutely fine.
Mum has a cough too, I'm watching her like a hawk despite the fact that I know she's had a cough for 15years.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 29/03/2020 10:14

I have had this for about a week now. Not a spontaneous cough, just if I think about it I get a tickle in my throat and make myself cough.

I suffer from v.bad health anxiety and coupled with having a disabled high risk child at home I have been so unwell I ended up being assessed for a heart attack yesterday. The lovely gp assured me it was my anxiety, gave me some beta blockers and Im feeling considerably better already. One of the things I mentioned was the cough and he told me that in the vast majority of cases the corona cough is pretty unmistakable, constant and impossible to hold in/surpress. Even if it starts a bit feeble it usually pretty quickly gets worse. So chances are you are completely fine don't worry

MiracletoCome · 29/03/2020 10:18

Yes, I am much more conscious of every time DH and I clear our throats and I have started watching DH when he is doing this, apparently his blood pressure tablets cause a slight cough.

Isitacoughorisitmyhead · 29/03/2020 10:28

I'm sorry many of us are so anxious.

Yes, DH choked on a piece of fruit downstairs yesterday and I called from upstairs asking why he was coughing 🙈

Not quite an imaginary one for me, but I get rotten reflux overnight at times, and wake up with (amongst other things) a horrid cough while it all settles down. Problem is, I'm a nurse and I know that my housemates are (understandably) nervous about my job, as meticulous as I try to be with my infection control measures. So I try and stifle my cough so they don't hear and worry... which makes the cough and choking worse! Somehow harder to rationalise and be sensible at 3am than in the cold light of day.

WTF99 · 29/03/2020 12:49

@MiracletoCome sounds like your dh is on similar meds to me. The cough is really irritating....especially at the moment!

MiracletoCome · 29/03/2020 12:56

Yes, DH said it was the Ramapril cough.

coronade · 29/03/2020 13:25

Yes this is exactly me. Woke up about 3am with a coughing fit and then laid awake in total panic. For the last few days I keep wanting to clear my throat then have a few coughs come late afternoon, early evening. I think it’s either all in my head or maybe hay fever related. Just glad I’m not the only one.

Isitacoughorisitmyhead · 29/03/2020 13:27

I keep working back the incubation period to things like last time at the shops (7 days ago, but I can get click and collect slots now at least as they seem to be freeing up) and wondering about that person that came a bit closer etc

Yes, this is me for the past 2 weeks and I think (hope) I know what caused it.

I ingested so many chemicals by spraying everything that it went to my lungs, so trying to spray less and cover my face.
