Has anyone self isolating got it after staying in?

Just wondering really.

We're being really careful with deliveries, not going anywhere or near anyone. I keep thinking we're safe but we're not are we.

We’ve been isolating for ten days and my DD has managed to get a cold. She hasn’t been anywhere. No one else in the house has it. The only way she can have got it is from touching stuff or from someone walking close when she’s been in the garden! I didn’t think this was at all likely, but it has made me think a bit more about the issue of transfer on packages etc.

@ChipotleBlessing

Have you pondered the possibility she just has a cold and not Covid 19?

ChipotleBlessing · 02/04/2020 00:11

@cinammonbuns My post literally says she has a cold. She doesn’t have Covid symptoms.

Aveisenim · 02/04/2020 01:11

Yep. I have possible COVID19. Not been tested so can't say for sure either way. Now have a chest infection. GP only doing phone consultations so prescribed meds yesterday before I got any worse. they seem to be doing the trick but won't know for sure until I'm off them. Genuinely thought I was going to end up in hospital as breathing was so difficult and I was struggling to get my words out.

Helenj1977 · 02/04/2020 08:27

@Aveisenim I hope you feel better soon. How long were you self isolating before your symptoms started?

My husband and I have been at home and seen no one since 19 March. A few days ago he started with a bad head cold and now I have it. I just don’t understand how this is possible.

feelingverylazytoday · 02/04/2020 09:57

Don't forget the possibility of allergies. Mine (and my son's) started up about 3 weeks ago.

@Daisiest
Please tell your mum wiping packaging with anti bacterial wipes is a complete waste of time. Just throw away the packaging and wask=h your hands with soap and water

willdoitinaminute · 02/04/2020 10:36

Tree pollen is very high at the moment so cold symptoms may be hay fever.

Aveisenim · 02/04/2020 21:34

@Helenj1977 I've been self-isolating pretty much since the virus hit the UK with speed at the beginning of March (mostly because I was ill anyway). As I catch pretty much every bug going and have been ill on and off since last October with various things.

Thankfully it means it's easy to track where I may have picked it up. My vector tracks back to having to pick up a prescription a few days before I got ill (as the pharmacy is useless and always cocks it up when my DP goes to pick it up without me) OR a grocery delivery the day after that. As I got ill the same weekend of the delivery. I'm on day 12 now or thereabouts. I first noticed symptoms around the 22nd. I wasn't this ill when I had swine flu.

Today there has been a dip from starting to feel better so keeping an eye on it as I'm finding the stairs difficult again.

Why are people saying anti bacterial cleaners don't work. Official advice here in Ireland is that they do.

From what I can gather this particular virus has a fatty protein type coating which anti bacs and soap can kill thus ruining the virus.

Wouldyou66 · 02/04/2020 22:27

Dettol Antibacterial Surface Cleanser kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses, including E. coli, salmonella, MRSA and the flu virus.

Carbosug · 03/04/2020 06:29

Exactly. Wou people stop peddling false information on here and panicking other pe9.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 03/04/2020 06:46

I’ve been coughing all night...I can’t seem to stop but I’ve been off work for about 13 days and only go out once a day to take the dog out. The only thing that I have had contact with is the post.

The coughing seems to have slowed down now So I’m hoping it’s just anything except COVID

Welcometothequiz · 03/04/2020 09:38

Thanks. I don't keep snacks at home or I just eat them so I'd go without that. Wouldn't you be fed at the hospital anyway if you were admitted?

Well yes but it wouldn't keep a mouse alive. I don't know whether the shops/cafes in hospitals are all closed now, does anyone know?

Gwenhwyfar · 03/04/2020 15:36

"it wouldn't keep a mouse alive"

Wow, really? Might do me good to be a bit underfed after being totally inactive though. Or maybe not if I'm ill.

Daisiest · 03/04/2020 15:48

I'll tell her to carry on with the anti bac wipes then.
