Am I right to feel pissed off?

Name change because she is on here.

Just finished call with a friend. Talking about the food shortages and she gleefully told me that she had seen this all coming and has been stocking up for months.
She has tons of food, all the foods that we can't get at the moment. Pasta, flour, tinned food etc.
She then said how happy she was that her food delivery was coming today.
To be honest I was speechless.

They are all fit and healthy and are able to go to the shops. I just find it incredibly selfish that they are taking a delivery slot from someone vulnerable.

We didn't have the foresight to stock up, or the money. But we are ok managing to find bits and bobs to make dinner.
I was just upset with her while attitude and not sure if I'm overreacting on this?
Feel like I don't want to be friends with her anymore Sad

Really selfish - I can’t believe she didn’t offer you some of her stock at the very least. This situation has show the true colours of a lot of people Flowers

ShanghaiDiva · 28/03/2020 09:17

What an arse she is: plenty of food and taking a delivery slot.

Lottiebugz22 · 28/03/2020 09:19

So selfish

AgentCooper · 28/03/2020 09:19

That’s really nasty

anyoneforbingo · 28/03/2020 09:22

If she prepped rather than panic bought fair enough.. it's the panic buyers that have done the shelf stripping.. however if she's fully stocked then she's a tasty taking a delivery slot. I would imagine her order is fresh food and milk.. but then I thought the preppers had long life milk and frozen veg.. which makes me think she was a panic buyer and so we're back to her being a twat!

Mintjulia · 28/03/2020 09:24

That’s very tactless if her, unless of course it isn’t true. People love to present a perfect image on fb, maybe this is the phone version. Especially if she is frightened and trying to talk herself out of it.

Also, if they are “able to go to the shops” and taking such a flippant attitude, they won’t be fit and healthy for very long.

Bide your time, and don’t believe everything she says. People act oddly when they are stressed.
I hope you’re ok

anyoneforbingo · 28/03/2020 09:24

A tasty? Autocorrect... should be twat!

FuckOffRona · 28/03/2020 09:44

She definitely prepped for this

Honestly, you wouldn't believe the amount of food she has. Although I admire her foresight I just can't believe her taking a delivery slot.
We are ok. My DH is venturing out every few days to get supplies. Just really made me question my friendship with her and don't think I want to speak to her at the moment.
I guess this situation brings out emotions in people.

There was no food shortage when she was prepping months ago, so the fact that she is well stocked doesn't mean anyone else lost out. Why are you angry at her for taking precautions

FuckOffRona · 28/03/2020 09:54

I'm not angry for her for taking precautions.
I'm angry that she has taken a delivery slot that someone more vulnerable could have.
It was just her "we are alright jack" attitude I guess.
I'm probably overreacting a lot because of this situation.
Just needed to vent really

im like your friend
got a bit of a whiff things were going to go to a shit storm and began prepping prob end Jan Early Feb
thing is even being fully stocked up, its not a infinite supply and you have to get more at some point, i have a click and collect in for next weekend which was the only one i could get earlier this week, i def wont need everything thats being picked up by then but who knows when the demand will go down

SistemaAddict · 28/03/2020 10:41

I'm a prepper but I have still had delivery slots for fresh stuff like milk and veg. There's only been so much I've been able to store (over the past year or so) and now that we are using it, it needs replacing. I booked deliveries weeks ago and have now used them and can't get another delivery until who knows when.
I'm hoping one of the few positives to come out of this situation is that everyone has some kind of good buffer in at all times. Apparently in Germany the government advise everyone to have 10 days supply of food at home just in case. Not everyone can afford to stockpile in a short time but over months it's possible to gather a small selection of things to see you through snow or regular illness for example. Obviously this situation is very different and most people are struggling and worried.
Your friend has prepared, you can't blame her for that.

maddy68 · 28/03/2020 10:45

I also have prepped. My friend was in china when it all started. I also arranged a weekly fruit and veg delivery. Bought pasta and rice I haven't been to the shops once since all the panic buying has started. So I am not causing a problem. Mines been steady

worriedandannoyed · 28/03/2020 10:51

I had a food delivery this week and have got one for next week. Although I'm sure I could cancel I've also added stuff on for 3 elderly neighbours (actually most is for them and not me!) and I won't be expecting any money from them. If I cancelled it someone else from the non vulnerable group would take the slot?

GenderfreeNatalie · 28/03/2020 10:57

Maybe she's getting the fresh stuff in her delivery slot. Veg and dairy. Shouldn't she get that then if she's stocked up on cupboard stuff?

FuckOffRona · 28/03/2020 12:27

Ok I stand corrected. Just upset and overreacting
Thank you for putting things in perspective.

Prepping for a no deal Brexit did most of the work here.

chica1 · 28/03/2020 13:32

You can't hate her for being prepared? Everyone laughs at me and it's always a family joke because my cupboards are always full of pasta and tins etc.

Well now they are not laughing as I have to cook and feed for 5 and I'm lucky that my cupboards are full but yes I am still doing on line shops as I still need bread, fresh vege etc

WtfIsThisEven · 28/03/2020 13:37

Not gonna lie.. I stocked up yesterday. Why? Because the supermarket scared the shit out of me. So many people obviously giving zero fucks. In the space of a 30 minute shop I had one man come right up in my face and try and show me a video of someone eating a bat while ranting about “the Chinese”. Another man openly leered at me while telling me how good looking I was (I’m literally not even, I’m obese and really unattractive Blush ) and another man breathe right down my neck at the check out. Plus various others in the aisles clearly not adhering to the 2m rule.

So I stocked up in hope that I never have to go back there for as long as humanly possible. I had no intention of buying more than my usual weekly shop, but I’d rather starve to death than have to go back! 🤢

So shoot me.
