Anyone else here worried about paying their bills & mortgage etc?

I thought we were going to be ok but DH juts has a message to say that unless we can claim the 80% off the state then he won't be paid next month. We have no savings and I'm not working.

Has anyone tried to claim the 80% yet? I'm imagining it's not a quick process? How are people getting money to pay bills & buy food etc?

You don't claim the 80%, the employer does, so they are leading your DH up the garden path. Request a mortgage holiday in the interim to ease the pressure, and lots of councils have suspended payments for people, you just need to ask.

If you can't claim it you would just have to claim Universal credit like 90k other people have done since this crisis started. That will be your safety net although wont replace income.

The employer puts the claim in (once it's up and running, hopefully end of April). Not the employee. How long has he worked there?

ImfinallyaMummy · 27/03/2020 20:15

He works for a relative, it's only a small business and only done the job 6 months.

It doesn't matter who he works for, or for how long. The employer claims and pays the employee. This is why I never mix business with friends or family. Liberties are taken. I assume he has an employment contract?

As long as he was the payroll at 28th February then the scheme applies to him.

Maybe the employer doesn't fully understand how it works and your husband could explain.
