Please spare a thought to people who are processing benefits

I know it’s desperate if you are waiting to get money, but there are thousands of people working hard to get benefits to the people that needs them. They can’t do it from home and they are not all that well paid. Many are struggling with childcare etc too.

Of course it’s not like working in the NHS but it is a critical service. I have a relative who works in benefits processing and he’s been working flat out , dealing with irate customers over the phone and worried about his own health.

The stress they have been under is enormous something like 90k new cases since the crisis started.

In fact in some ways it probably is a good thing that Universal credit is up and running because under the old system you could potentially have 90k of people needing to make claims for a number of different benefits - tax credits, JSA and housing benefit which would have created numerous problems. At least with Uc it's one claim to sort the lot.
