I'm a nurse, I was looking after these 4 patients for the past week, swabbed on wednesday AM all 4, got results 1am last night, vivid positive, I've got no symptoms, but I have a 2 year old and I'm so worried ive come home and infected her!! I've got work tomorrow and I just cant stop crying, I feel so distraught that most of us nurses have been exposed with not enough PPE to go round ! I dont even know why I'm writing this

I'm sorry you are so distressed. It's understandable but try not to worry about your DD. Logically you know she is safe even if you have passed it on. It must be scary and frustrating at the moment. Take care, OP.

BBCONEANDTWO · 27/03/2020 19:38

Have you been tested?

Distressednurse · 27/03/2020 20:00

We dont get tested

It must be so worrying for you, OP. What PPE where you wearing?

Distressednurse · 27/03/2020 21:09

Well no ppe for the first few days, then after they were suspected paper masks, aprons and gloves

testing is coming, hang in there xx

I saw tonight they’re going to start testing front line NHS staff next week. Please try not to worry too much

How upsetting for you, I'm so sorry you're having to worry about this at such a time. I know logically even if you have caught it, and if you have passed it on, both of you are likely to be ok, but that doesn't change how awful it is for you. DaffodilDaffodil

My ndn is a nurse and there is a woman on her ward who has tested positive and she has just had major surgery for cancer. Also 2 other suspected cases - just in surgical masks until confirmed.

I hope she hasn't been exposed to CV as her nephew had a kidney transplant some years ago and is back on the list again and now on home dialysis. He can't afford to get it.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/03/2020 21:47

oh lovely, that is so scary for you. I am really sorry that you have not got the equipment needed. I hope that they sort it all out soon so you can be properly protected.

Best wishes for you and your little one.

OP I am so sorry and I have everything crossed for you. They can’t tell us who is not infected so we should be allowed to wear PPE for all patients.

Yes we get told/the public get told that there is plenty of PPE but you are only allowed to use it in suspected cases even though the high number of asymmetrical infected are well documented - the guy with the broken foot has a good chance of being infected not just the patients with a cough.

I only get up close and personal to a small number of patients who are are all supposedly ‘clean’. I find myself counting out the days and thinking well it has been a week so that interaction was probably okay. Both because I am worried they might infect me but also because I would feel awful to be a risk to my patients.

I am sure your toddler will be absolutely fine but look after yourself as best you can.
