Could it be a mild form of Coronavirus?

Heya, I don’t know whether or not I could be being paranoid but I thought best to see if anyone could help...

I have found today progressively that I don’t have my full lung capacity. It’s hard to take a deep breath and my chest feels a bit heavy. It really caught my attention when I was singing (in the bath... as you do!) and I was finding it far harder than normal - couldn’t seem to hold enough air to sing a line properly as I usually do.

So my question is, can this be a symptom by itself without a fever/persistant cough or am I just being paranoid? Any ideas?

It doesn’t effect me too much as I’m a SAHM and me and DC can isolate if needed, but DH is still going to work so would obviously need to stay home if it was likely CV

Thanks all!

There are a lot of respiratory infections going around at the moment as well as Coronavirus but the vast majority by far have fever in addition. Many people are feeling breathless due to anxiety. You should isolate yourself either way. Buy an oximeter if you can. They are about £10 - £15. You can check your oxygen levels regularly on that so if it is anxiety it will help reassure you. Healthy oxygen levels are 96 - 100%.

WTFrigg · 26/03/2020 20:14

I did wonder if it was anxiety to begin with, but it was when I was trying to sing it struck home gone much it was effecting me as I can usually belt out a song no trouble! I will look into an oximeter as anything for piece of mind has to be a good thing! As for the isolation, that’s the tricky part - if I had a fever/cough then absolutely no question, but I can’t seem to find much on shortness of breath/tight chest as a stand alone symptom. But if I were to isolate the whole household would need to (2 year old DC) and if my husbands not at work the company he works for could crumble (he’s a senior manager and one of the few that holding the place afloat) 😔

It is hard for you.

With Covid breathlessness has followed at least one other symptom (sore throat, dry cough) after about 5/7 days. Mild Covid patients have shown no respiratory symptoms at all. Definitely get an Oximeter as soon as you can though. Good luck Flowers

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2020 20:38

I had exactly this a while ago. It never progressed. I assumed it was asthma related.

WTFrigg · 26/03/2020 20:46

Had a look on amazon for one but not too surprisingly they are all out of stock/delivery in may 😅

Thanks wolfie, glad it didn’t get worse! Though I don’t have asthma so I likely to be the cause this time 😜

Hi OP, I had a similar symptom, slight tight chest where I wanted to use my inhaler to relieve (have mild asthma that usually only comes up with bad colds or allergies) - for around 6 days, then developed a temp and aches a couple of days ago. Feel like it’s covid because I haven’t felt like this before, chest or temp wise. Kids seem to have mild symptoms too but their temps only slightly raised. Compared to a heavy head cold I don’t feel that bad, it is mild. I wondered if the lack of lung capacity feeling was a symptom early on, but the diagnostic criteria are what they are, I was WFH but DH was working and only isolated once I got the temp. Hope it’s nothing for you tho.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2020 20:55

I don’t normally suffer like that but it was really odd. No cough. No high temp. Just couldn’t breathe I’m fully. And the heavy feeling.
Feel better soon OP.

Knobblybobbly · 26/03/2020 21:05

This is odd. Yesterday I my lungs started to feel tight on a deep breath in. I blamed it on that bloody Joe Wicks.

Today they feel like they are more tight and almost a burning sensation. The kind of lung pain I used to get doing cross country in the winter at school. I don't have asthma or anything. My throat feels a tad peppery.

No temp, but I do feel tired.

My boss is ill with corona virus symptoms.

I’m almost certain this is psychosomatic!!!

WTFrigg · 26/03/2020 21:05

Hmm thanks for your info, it does make me wonder if at some point down the line they will figure out it’s another possible way CV presents itself, but for now it’s so hard to know what to do when it’s not used as part of the criteria! As I say, I’m happy to isolate with LO but the reprecussions for DH could be huge!

Out of interest, how high is the fever you’ve ended up with Merename?

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2020 21:06

Mine isn’t CV. Asthma and immunocompromised. If I get it then I’m going to be very very sick.

WTFrigg · 26/03/2020 21:07

That sounds quite similar knobbly! Perhaps we are just a couple of anxious fruit loops... I’m really hoping that’s all it is!

Then I hope very much that you stay safe wolfie 🤞

If its any consolation I have mild lung disease and an oximeter. I go through phases where I feel more breathless, one of these has been going on for the past few weeks. No change on the oximeter.

littlebitwooway · 26/03/2020 21:09

Its worth saying as well that staying indoors more, less vit D is probably not helping our lungs feel healthy in the short term.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2020 21:09

@WTFrigg bless you.
I’m hiding in the house and sending DH out for only the very essentials. Wishing you well too.

WTFrigg · 26/03/2020 21:16

Littlebit, that is interesting - I suppose with all that’s going on it could be at times more to do with stress than anything. The Vit d shouldn’t be so much of an issue here though as I’ve been doing my spring garden prep 😅😊

Ds and I had that a while back- chest pain, dry cough 2 or 3 times an hour and the odd aches and pains plus a constant headache. No fever tho. He says not CV.
I thought the chest pain might be my BP but my doc (regular checkup) said not
