Who is still ordering takeaway during this?

Has anyone during past 2 weeks ordered takeaways- perhaps even more then usual? I would've thought right now many considered this to be a very rare treat, especially being knackered during day with kids/no time to meal plan or have ingredients for many exciting meals.
But slowly Im seeing a trickling of even our major chains ie. GBK just now, Franca Manca earlier this week all saying they are fully shutting up shop.

No, less money. No money for things like take aways

WhatAboutMeeee · 26/03/2020 16:37

Yes we will be ordering one tomorrow.
Make payment over the telephone with card, they knock and leave on doorstep. I open packaging and food and throw containers away and wash hands.

orangeicecream · 26/03/2020 16:49

Might be sad but I've never ordered a take away delivery.... Tempted by ordering something as a treat. "Just eat".... Is it a good/reliable thing?

Snowflakes1122 · 26/03/2020 16:54

No. I’m trying to minimise the amount of people we interact with. Plus I worry the person making it might unwittingly be asymptomatic.

I would love a takeaway curry though, but it’ll have to wait....sigh

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/03/2020 17:13

"Just eat".... Is it a good/reliable thing?

Yes.

We haven't changed our habits really, about one a week. Pleased to be able to carry on supporting local businesses. Delivery drivers are all being very careful.

Thescrewinthetuna · 26/03/2020 17:14

I have, supporting a local family run business plus I get tasty food, win win

FamilyOfAliens · 26/03/2020 20:54

Just eat".... Is it a good/reliable thing?

Depends. Our local independent pizzeria prefers customers to order direct so they don’t have to pay Just Eat’s fees.

Siameasy · 26/03/2020 20:57

Yes because we could not face going to the supermarket-especially after Boris’ announcement. We’ve been to the supermarket less than we ordinarily would purely because of the idea of it so we have had two takeaways this week.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 26/03/2020 21:02

It's not the food I am worried about it's the packaging- how can you be sure that the person preparing it hasn't got the virus.

We usually have a Chinese every week and the occasional pizza but not for the foreseeable future.

Shame because I hate bloody cooking and there is not let up for me at the moment despite there being 3 other bloody adults in the house... 😡

maslinpan · 26/03/2020 21:34

Time to stop doing all the cooking Birgit and get the other adults to acquire some life skills! Learning to cook is a good way of passing the time, even if they complain and the food isn't great.

OwlFox · 26/03/2020 21:49

Nope, we used to get 2 a month, sometime three. Since February we have had none, tightening our belts because one of us is on 12 week isolation, one is on reduced hours and I have taken extended annual leave as my store upgrade isn't ready because of Covid 19 Hmm.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 26/03/2020 21:50

Yes much more than usual, purely to support small local family run cafes who are offering the service. They are struggling so much now obviously.

Geepipe · 26/03/2020 21:52

We are tonight. First one in ages and for ages. We order from foodhub as we get a discount plus our local takeaway (pizza) asked us to order here not justeat due to fees.

MelbaToast · 26/03/2020 21:59

I thought all takeaway would stop. I really want one now. In saying this, my corona diet is suiting me. I'm eating more veg and less treats because I have nowhere to store them and can't face doing top up shops at the moment. I feel healthier for it so might stick

stickerqueen · 26/03/2020 22:02

no takeaway for a while now. was tempted last night to order pizza then changed my mind and made my own with wholemeal flour

MashedSpud · 26/03/2020 22:12

No.

pjmask · 26/03/2020 22:17

Are you still food shopping?! Are you bleaching every food item? Get a grip ffs

tinseltitsandlittlegits · 26/03/2020 22:24

No because I'm a bit frightened they might cough while cooking it

Rocketmam · 26/03/2020 22:25

No.

Because I can't dettol pizza. Grin

And I couldn't quite get the image of one of the domino's cooks coughing up a storm when we picked up a pizza last year out of my head.

Pishposhpashy · 26/03/2020 22:26

Me, had a curry this evening and it was delicious. The NHS have said the risk from food is negligible. I'm comfortable accepting that level of risk. Who knows how much longer they'll be able to stay open anyway.

Rocketmam · 26/03/2020 22:28

Are you still food shopping?! Are you bleaching every food item?

Yes, I am. Very at risk household and taking no chances.

We were already fully stocked so our online shop has only been fresh bits. The lovely driver pops ot on the drive then I take it round back to clean it with bleach/water before it comes into the house.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 26/03/2020 22:28

Yep - Chinese once a week. Still collecting as it is only on the next street. I open the door with a tissue though and wash my hands before I leave and when I get in before I eat

But... You know that the workers who have just cooked your food are low paid and high risk, and would come in unless burning up with fever? I am not a particularly squeamish or paranoid person and honestly cannot imagine getting a takeaway unless in absolutely dire need right now.

DishingOutDone · 26/03/2020 22:38

see this really confuses me because how is it OK to eat food prepared by other people?

DishingOutDone · 26/03/2020 22:40

Why "get a grip ffs"? as I say, I don't see the logic in it. You avoid others as much as possible except when they are preparing your food, then its ok. How?

ItsTrueISwear · 26/03/2020 23:27

Yes, we’re still ordering takeaways.
We’re also trying to spread our custom around - because of the crisis a few pubs/restaurants have started doing takeaways so we’re happy to give them our support
