Face mask pattern to sew for hospitals

whilst not all hospitals are taking donations (please check with the ones that are near you to see if they are), some of them are in need of face masks. there is a pattern to sew them here, if you can sew, please get involved to help offer some protection to the NHS staff

This is a really sweet thought, but where are you getting fabric from that will filter out the virus? Normal fabric would be like using a tennis net to stop a fly.

@tiktoktik I am learning to sew to make the emergency face mask type- the type with no filter. I have seen photos of doctors and nurses resorting to wearing a bandana in place of a facemask so whilst they don't offer as much protection as a face mask with a filter, they do offer a little and act as a stopgap until they can get hold of the type with a proper filter :)

I'm sorry, but this is wrong. Employers need to provide proper PPE to these workers. Resorting to diy facemasks is wrong because they can actually trap pathogens behind the mask and increase infection risk to the wearer. They also give a false sense of security because they don't work, but people might start to become dependent on them.

@IpeartreeI I completely agree that employers should be the ones to be providing this equipment, however there is a shortage of masks now so they are struggling to get a hold of them. I wasn't aware about the pathogens, would it be safer to make the bandana style masks instead? In some hospitals nurses are being told to wear bandanas or scarfs where they can't get a hold of the correct type of mask so I think the bandana type work in the same way? thank you for the information :)
