Essential Shopping (lighthearted, I hope!!)

I need to go food shopping today, but as the advice is for 'essentials' only, can I pick up say a packet of chocolate biscuits while I'm in the supermarket? Or would this be breaking the actual law, according to some people?

Maybe I should just stick with dry crackers and water?

But but but... Chocolate and wine are the very definition of essential though!

YABU.

Shops should only be selling gruel. Anything else is frivolous.

As for GAMES... All children need is a stick.

This is not just lockdown.
This is MN lockdown.

If it's on sale in the supermarket and you usually have it, you can buy it , as long as you don't go to Tescos every day to get your three wine allowanceGrin

Phifedean123 · 26/03/2020 12:18

I went for bread. Ended up with wine and chocolate and some toddler snacks too. No one rang the police don't worry Grin

I bought two bunches of daffs at Trader Joe's yesterday, only two because you are not allowed more than two of anything.
They made me smile when I saw them and something needs to.
(I also bought other stuff!)

@Jamonit can you access the slimy green water butt without coming within 2 meters of a neighbour?

I’m not being sarcastic about tap water, it’s disgusting! Well what comes out of my tap is anyway, horrible metallic taste!

In all seriousness though OP, I totally understand the confusion, it’s so hard to know if you are doing the right thing. I’ve taken the view that as long as I’m not going to the supermarket numerous times during the week then it’s essential to buy food maybe once a week. Other than that I’ve taken one walk with my son on his scooter, keeping well clear of anyone we have passed (which was actually only 2 people)

BrieAndChilli · 26/03/2020 19:05

I think the point is don’t pop out just for luxuries, of course if you are buying essentials milk, bread, actual food etc then of course add what the fuck else you like to your trolley.
I think the aim is for people to only go out as little as possible so shop for the week rather than going out every day for things.

Flyingarcher · 27/03/2020 17:37

I bought four pots of lupin yesterday from Waitrose. There was other 'essential' stuff too.

Mysocalledlifexx · 27/03/2020 18:02

I agree with ifonly.
We are doing just 1 shop a week my
DH goes alone,we have 7 of us to feed so food doesnt last in our household.
