A LOT of people are being utter dicks!!!

Name Changed-I work in the police control room in a large county (one of the largest in England).

I worked a ten hour shift today answering 999 and 101 calls.

At LEAST!! 90% of my calls today were from people reporting 'mass gatherings'.

'All the neighbours kids are out!'

'My next door neighbour's having a BBQ, I'm sure that's not allowed'
'My friend's got a party arranged for tonight and she's not going to cancel it!'
'I'm just out walking my dog and there's a group of lads building a fire and playing by the stream'

'I've just been in Aldi and everyone's queuing up outside together 'cause they won't let more than 2 people in at a time'

This is just the direct calls reporting things people know aren't right.

Add to this, calls like 'My boyfriend's on bail, he's at my friend's house-can I go see him even though I was with him when he was arrested?'

'I'm just at my friend's and (insert normal ish call issue)'
(Of course these aren't 'real' call reasons because I can't do that. But they're similar.

And I am not exaggerating the quantity. I'm terrified. Totally terrified. People just aren't listening.

These were people from all different areas of the county, rich areas, poor areas, every type of area. I'm so upset tonight. Honestly I could cry. What is wrong with people?

I have put this on here in the hope that, if you recognise yourself in scenarios like what people may call about, you change. But I know full well I am preaching to the choir. I hope I am anyway. Sorry.

The public have had 3 days to get used to this lockdown, I’ve seen so many Facebook posts asking people to support the NHS by stayinghome, Boris and other ministers keep saying it and I posted the bbc article of the police breaking up a bbq on Tuesday in Coventry and I know a few friends shared it. The message is getting out there, unfortunately some people don’t WANT to listen. I think once they start have fines slapped on them hopefully that’ll make them stop. I think ANYONE who organises a gathering shout bd slapped with £1000 fine.

Sorry you have to deal with these morons all day. It must be infuriating.

This illustrates that the strategy is wrong (for many other reasons as well in my opinion, but this one is enough). The legislation hasn't even come into force yet, and it's widely disobeyed. It will be impossible to enforce as the weather gets nicer and as more people become stir crazy, unless we move from policing by consent to a police state, and even then I doubt there are enough police.)

(On the other hand the massive number of deaths which are about to occur may pull in the other direction! But I doubt it.)

I'm a police officer and have been on shift today and yes to all you have just said, people ringing from friends house to report things, people gathering in the sunny Park to drink together, one woman today claimed she had to go to her cousins house to use the land line as she didn't have one.

People just don't seem to be getting it!!

That must be frustrating, but please remember the quiet and silent majority who are following the rules, who you wouldn't be aware of because they're just at home. There always have been and always will be entitled selfish people who think the rules don't apply to them, and people who are a bit thick (as PP said) and just don't get it.

I'm listening OP! Unfortunately others aren't.

I'm a key worker also, Dp and our DC's are housebound. I go to, and from work and that's it. The furthest they can go is the garden, I have told them if they spread it, it will be all the key workers in the hospital beds, then they will be really fucked.
