I am actively involved with my three grandchildren. My daughter is a single parent who works long hours full time. Although she is a key worker she is not eligible for childcare as two of my grandchildren have asthma.
The problem is that she has a number of money issues and she needs to work. As my work has closed down she has asked me if i will look after the children. normally i would not hesitate but i am a bit worried about my own and my husbands health as we are both in our 60's and have asthma too. she will not get paid if she does not go to work. i am beside myself with worry as i do not know what to do for the best.

Do you live with her? I’m not sure you’re allowed to look after them if not

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 25/03/2020 21:13

Unless you already live in the same house then you are not allowed to do this.

Worriedgran2020 · 25/03/2020 21:13

no i don't live with her.

i dont really understand this as if they were going to school like was promised for key workers they would be getting dropped off there. so what is the difference getting dropped off at mine ? surely there is less risk as they are not mixing with the other children there and staff ?

You cannot care for her children and it's really awkward that she's asked. She will be able to claim universal credits if she cannot work.

I rely on my mum and inlaws for childcare. My mother is vulnerable and MIL is extremely vulnerable. There is no chance I'd consider asking them for help at this time.
