Just seen on the news that Donald Trump is going to send every adult in America a cheque of just over $1000 to help them amid this coronavirus crisis. That is just mad isn’t it!

How much would that cost the government? America is massive!

Just one lump sum? That's nothing and it's means tested.

So is it based on the annual tax returns. We await our $2000 I won't hold my breath.

Troels · 27/03/2020 16:37

So aparently it's true, it is based on tax returns from 2018 and 2019. The 2019 ones not yet filed have all been given extentions till summer and they'll use the 2018 ones for the refund
We already filed ours in february. They are depositing money directly to the account used for refunds. Very helpful, some families will be getting $600 per child under age 16 and $2400 per couple on top. only if the earnings for the household are below a certain threashold. $75k I think it was.

"Rich country can afford to give it's citizens money" shocker, eh ?

In other news it's cold at the North Pole, and hot in the Sahara.

How does health insurance work in this crisis? Is that out of the window as well? (i hope so)

Troels · 28/03/2020 08:58

Most states (if not all) have the Obamacare thing, all people have to have insurance, my friend buys into a low cost one it's for emergency care only really which this will be. You are asked on your federal return each year who you are insured through.
If you are disabled or very low income you'd have the state ins, like in California it's Medi-Cal and in Georgia it's called Peachcare, every state has it.
