If you've got a garden, are you still going out for exercise?

I've been taking the dcs out for a walk every day, but we have a garden.
Wondering if we should be staying in, and just using the garden. We have avoided the few people we've seen while out...

I have a garden I have been going for a walk

KoalasandRabbit · 25/03/2020 20:25

No we aren't going out partly as there are many elderly and vulnerable here, partly as we are too lazy.

GoBackToPartyCity · 25/03/2020 20:26

I’ve still been going out for a walk. We have a large open space about 300 yards from our door so have just been taking the dog round there. My 3 year old needs the walk more than my dog does!

foamrolling · 25/03/2020 20:27

I am if I feel I and the kids need it. My younger 2 are making good use of the garden and don't want to go for a walk so I'm not making them. They're getting fresh air and exercise. Eldest is too old for playing in the garden really so if she fancies a walk then one of us goes with her. We're also going out for a run every other day. Basically I'm seeing the once a day thing as a maximum, not a target.

forkfun · 25/03/2020 20:27

No, but only because we have symptoms When our time is up I can't wait to go for a walk or run. Will observe safe distance.

ArkAtEee · 25/03/2020 20:28

Yes. We have a tiny garden, but there is a quiet field out the back.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 25/03/2020 20:29

Yes. The streets round here and the field over the road have been deserted all week.

OpticVA · 25/03/2020 20:30

Yes to walk the dog and give my 16 mo a change of scenery, social distancing of course!

chillandrelax · 25/03/2020 20:32

No. We have a pretty big garden and mine are more than happy to stay at home. I am still running though.

Holdmenow · 25/03/2020 20:34

Yes, we own about 20acres which includes a forest and a small hilly area. We are out every day! Either playing or walking (we have made various pathways!) we are very lucky to have our land. We are also coastal so we go to visit an isolated beach at times too!

Florencenotflo · 25/03/2020 20:34

We have a small garden but I've been getting out for a walk with the kids every day. We do one leg of the school run on foot every day so I've really missed not having that walk!

My problem is we live in a coastal town and everyone has the same idea to walk along the seafront. All the other decent walking routes (for a pram and scooter) go past all of DD's favourite play parks and it seems really mean to walk her last when she can't go in!

Yesterday I just went round the big block (as we call it - old dog walking route) which Dd said was boring. But finding quiet places to walk round here isn't easy.

Goawayquickly · 25/03/2020 20:35

Yes, we have wide streets and large parks fortunately, its luckily easy to have a good walk and keep distance but it's nice to see people even if you can only wave or call a hello.

It goes against every instinct not to stop and chat though, something we have to get used to.

Fizzypoo · 25/03/2020 20:36

My 14 yr old Dd went for a bike ride today. First time out in over a week. She needed the exercise.

I'm going for a lovely long walk tomorrow as I've been stuck WFH 8.30 onwards since last week.

TabbyMumz · 25/03/2020 20:36

Yes absolutely. Have a garden but go for walks. You'd struggle to do a half hour walk round our garden.

mamaduckbone · 25/03/2020 20:36

Yes - we only have a small garden, a deserted park up the road (apart from the odd dog walker) and lots of walks over the fields. We couldn't get exercise just in the garden, and we'd go maaaad! The daily hour out of the house is the only thing getting the kids through their school work. Very easy to social distance where we are fortunately.

Oblomov20 · 25/03/2020 20:37

Of course. Eh? You are supposed to be! Hmm

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 25/03/2020 20:38

Big garden here but still been going for a walk with DD (today) or a cycle on my own (yesterday). DD refused to leave the garden yesterday!

We live semi-rural in an area where we can walk without seeing many people though. Our house backs on to woods.

If my walk involved busy streets I’d stay in.

Cornishclio · 25/03/2020 20:38

We have a garden but I have been out for a walk each day as I am trying to build my foot back up after an injury. Used to walking long distances normally on the coast path but sticking to just 30 to 45 minutes and fairly quiet roads from our house while in Lockdown. No problem to practice social distancing.

peacebypeace · 25/03/2020 20:38

No, we aren't. We are just spending time in the garden. My DS will not be able to understand not being able to play in the park or the playground if we go for a walk in our village (you can't miss both).

autumnboys · 25/03/2020 20:39

We have a country park behind our house, so we’ve been walking there, avoiding climbing frames and anywhere else people might congregate. We saw about five people from a distance today. If told to, we will stick to the garden.

CathyorClaire · 25/03/2020 20:39

Yes.
Big garden but walking round it for the couple of hours we walked out locally wouldn't really cut it.

TiddyTid · 25/03/2020 20:39

Only to see and feed my horse. I've printed "feeding livestock" to put in my car.

Thorilicious · 25/03/2020 20:39

Thanks all. I appreciate it may be a silly question, but I'm trying not to take any unnecessary risks.

We have a small garden and I have a rebounder and a Wii fit which I'm using..so I don't need to go out for exercise sun or fresh air

CheekyMango · 25/03/2020 20:59

Yes to avoid cabin fever. Have been couped up all winter with all sorts of bugs, especially during periods of holiday so I was already sick of the house before lock down.
