This is so stupid - I’m scared to touch packages

I feel an absolute idiot . I’ve got a package in the hallway that I received yesterday from boots ... I’m scared to touch it, mainly because the delivery driver carried it from the van with his bare hands . I have previous issues around contamination/germ phobia and that’s working overtime just now . I’ve left the parcels for about 30 hours, with the door shut .

Would I be safe enough to open it soon, do I need to spray it down with anything or wear gloves - obviously I’d wash my hands immediately after handling ? I’m assuming the internal stuff is fine - I don’t think I need to wash all that down - it’s the cardboard I’m worried about .

Why are people wasting hand sanitiser by using it after washing their hands? Is this why people went crazy buying so much of it, because they’re basically chucking it away?

What about post do you leave this to? I would just open it dispose of packaging and wash hands.

I open packages over the recycling bin,.packaging goes straight in bin then wash hands thoroughly

You could buy a UV sterilising rod. I got one a couple of weeks ago after reading that in China they sterilised all the money with UV light.

I put my protective glasses on (supplied) and do my phone, letters, packages, some shopping etc. I find the gentle hum almost soothing as I imagine the violet light ZAPPING the bloody virus to death. I got it on Amazon.

I open packages, immediately put the packing in the recycling use an antibacterial wipe on the contents then wash my hands. After that I'll antibac the surface they've been on and anything I have touched prior to washing my hands. Feels a little extreme but needs must!

The absolute hysteria. Open it and wash or sanitise your hands or if you have gloves open it and then bin the gloves.

Bloody hell. You’d think the virus had legs the way people talk about it on here. The only way you can get is if you touch the virus and then put it in your eyes nose or mouth.

Open your bloody packages then wash your hands!

In more than 10 years of working delivering the mail, I have NEVER caught any illness from handling letters or parcels... And I handle hundreds and hundreds of items daily. I don't know any of my colleagues who have ever caught anything from handling mail or parcels.
The risk really is tiny.

If you're really worried then open things immediately and dispose of the packaging, then wash your hands.
There's no need to leave things sitting for days on end. :-)

I've been opening them and then washing my hands. Hope that's ok!
