UK holiday cottage- when to move it to?

I posted last week that I had a holiday cottage booked for June in South Devon- obviously with the way things have panned out it won’t be safe to go then. I have contacted the company I booked it through and they won’t let me have a refund but they will allow me to move it. I was thinking of moving it to August but my dh thinks it still might not be safe to go then. I realise that this is not the most important issue in the grand scheme of things but I don’t want to lose my money and am really not sure what to do! I have also seen on another thread that someone has had their cottage holiday in October cancelled (albeit not in Devon) so is October possibly not a realistic option either? They won’t let me move it to next year as they haven’t sorted out their 2021 contacts yet! Any advice would be appreciated!

I’d say next year but that doesn’t help if their calendars aren’t open yet. How about Christmas?

Really hard to know confused, could the company give you a credit note or voucher to be used when travel restrictions have been lifted?

Confused202 · 25/03/2020 12:18

@SeasonallySnowyPeasant The owner is using it at Christmas- sorry I should’ve put that in my op.

If the company aren't being proactive then I'd wait until nearer the time you are due to go. The government may have to step in with rules about this as so many people will be in the same situation. The NHS is due to be overwhelmed by the second week in April, so presumably sometime after then the government will be thinking about whether all moment needs to be further curtailed.
So - let your booking for June stand and hope the government step in before then vs move your booking now and hope the random date you choose works out.

@puckingfixies I asked that but they said they think it will be safe to come by August and that they’re expecting all their current bookings in August to remain, so they are being quite persuasive for me to change it to then! It’s annoying but I get that this must be causing such problems for their business!

@OnTheEdgeOfTheNight I think that’s probably what I should do! I just didn’t want to get to June and there be no more availability for the rest of the year!
