Sent to me by a friend this evening:

So I came home in tears from work this morning
I was lucky that i wasn’t put on the Covid side
By 0400hrs the nurses on Covid side were crying through the doors at us
Not just because the patients are clearly poorly but because of the work conditions and there’s not enough staff

The morning staff came on
Some that had worked the covid side every shift the past week hoping for a break were made to go on there [the Covid side]

Out reach nurses that deal with critical patients on wards [were] made to work on the unit, leaving ward patients at risk

I was on the non-covid ITU [which was] short staffed
IV antibiotics were missed as no Dr around to put in access for IV drugs
Turns were not done leaving patients at risk of pressure sores
Worse of all we are told this is the reality deal with it !!

Please everyone, stay home.

So sorry OP. I hope the lockdown is enhanced as I don’t think there’s any other way tbh, not sure that some people will get this whatever you tell them (although some will, and thank you for posting). I am praying, for our world and for nurses like you.

Sorry - I should have said that my friend sent this to me this evening. I am not a nurse Smile but I shall pass on your best wishes!

Flowers That's heartbreaking but sadly I feel it's going on all over.
I'm a child nurse so although not thought high risk we have about 25% of staff off sick at the moment. It will get worse. I usually look after 2 high care patients at a time, today I had 5. I was close to tears most of the day.
My daughter is a nurse on adult respiratory ward, they set up 40 extra ICU beds today and they are filling up. I feel for her safety.
Thanks for what you are doing OP and I echo...
For Goodness sake stay at home!

Cross post, Thanks to your friend OP😊

The thought of nurses crying through the door really got to me. What can we do to help?

What can we do to help?

Stay in!

WhatIsThisMug · 24/03/2020 23:14

I think the biggest help is just getting people to stay indoors.
On the children's ward we have cut visiting to one parent per child/baby only. Yet still 2 parents turn up and give us abuse as they both can't come in.
Yes it's hard for that parent, we get it! But we are using video messaging and are letting parents use their phones (strict cleaning of phones monitored)

Oceans12isCrap · 24/03/2020 23:27

Yes of course stay in - I just wish there was more we could do to help!
