School staff...how many students are coming in?

I’m only asking as we had around 20+ confirmed but as of today none are attending.

We are a special school so all our children have an EHCP and could attend but parents have decided that it’s too risky (I don’t blame them).

I’m a TA and so have been asked not to come in at all.

This is all very well but I do feel I am being paid to sit in the garden when I could be doing something useful to help frontline workers.

I will volunteer for the NHS initiative as I am an ex nurse (been six years so they haven’t called me in the first lot of recalls).

Feeling a bit useless in it all. I’ve registered with Open Education online and am doing some teaching and learning based courses. The school sent these suggested courses out via email and I am making a start,

Anyone else found that students are not attending.

reefedsail · 24/03/2020 18:38

Very few. Well done parents!

BreakfastAtLitanies · 24/03/2020 18:41

Brilliant news that those who can are staying home. Makes it safer for the pupils/families with no choice

Randomschoolworker19 · 24/03/2020 18:41

18 yesterday, 9 today although different children as it depends on shift patterns.

VerbenaGirl · 24/03/2020 18:42

Way under the estimated figures (probably less than a third of the eligible).

CoronaIsComing · 24/03/2020 18:44

Phew parents are finally listening!

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/03/2020 18:46

9 both days out of a school of 450.

xyzandabc · 24/03/2020 18:54

School of 2200. Around 70 signed up last Thursday/Friday. Only 10 actually turned up on Monday.
I think the message really got out over the weekend to keep them at home if at all possible.

MrsSnitchnose · 24/03/2020 19:30

1600 usually, expected around 60. 14 turned up
DSs school 600 usually. 10 turned up

Khara · 24/03/2020 19:33

One form entry primary. 90+ parents signed up on Friday. 28 turned up yesterday, 16 today.

Floobydoodoo · 24/03/2020 19:35

About 25 both days so far (small primary).

Dh in medium sized secondary has had around 15 out of the 60 they were expecting.

OP another thing to look at is foodbanks. My local one is 'staffed' (all volunteers) by mostly over 70s, so they are now very down on the number of people they have helping. Things may have changed since yesterday's announcement but if you're looking to volunteer and the NHS 'don't want you', orgs like foodbanks might be v grateful!

FeelingCrap54 · 24/03/2020 19:53

The NHS volunteer website is crashing every time I try to submit my details.

The local community Voluntary Service have my details too.

I’m looking at anything I can do...the food bank is a good suggestion,
