COVID-19 Loss of taste and smell

I believe I have a very mild case of COVID-19. I was exposed last Saturday to someone who was working in Seattle for the last three weeks. We had dinner on Saturday and on Sunday, they told me they started having symptoms. In a couple of days, I started having a dry cough. The cough went away but then my nose started feeling really weird and tingling. After a couple of days of that, I lost my sense of taste and smell. My nose is still tingling and my taste/smell has been gone for 3 days. I have heard in the news that 30% of patients are experiencing this. I am wondering if any of you with symptoms have experience this and how long did it last? I'm sorry for those of you who are much sicker! TIA

Watching with interest as I started with a tickly cough last night. Thick headache. I'm hoping it's just me being run down.

Fingers crossed that if you do have it then it's mild.

How you doing?

My cough has gone and I'm pretty sure I just have the standard head cold.

@MrsMozartMkII going on day 5 without taste or smell. I still have a tingly feeling in my nose. I don't have any other symptoms of a cold like runny nose or sneezing. I do have a general feeling of being "unwell" but it's kind of hard to describe it. I do get cold sweats when I am active and I do sometimes have some shivering. I feel the worse in the morning after I get up...and then again right before bed. I've never had symptoms like this before. Sad

Was just reading about this as it's happened to a friend. The theory is that it occurs when the virus enters through the nose (and so affects the cells there). Can last up to 14 days Shock.

@Squigean thank you very much for your response! This is the first explanation that I've heard.

Me op.

Whether it's connected or not I don't know.

I had mild dioreha on Tuesday, for a few hours felt very jittery, strange, heart racing etc.

Felt much better that night and fine the next day.
On Monday night I started with strange nose and used first defence.
Tuesday nose really tingling, pure white snot. Lost smell. Slept all day Tuesday, felt so tired. Woke today and was about, but now back in bed feeling tired and strangely unwell but able to chat and move aroubd?

I wonder if this is it or will it.... Progress (terrified)

I heard about it in Radio 2 I think.

I'll rack brains and try and find my source.

There’s loads online if you google. Also another thread currently running on MN.

Two young adult family members both suddenly experiencing this but otherwise seem apparently fine. I’m scared the rest of us in house are about to fall ill now.
