Coronavirus and paying for gym

Ok I belong to a local private gym and pay by direct debit every month. It is expensive and I know I don't use it enough to justify the cost.

So the gym closed on Friday and the owner has switched to doing the workouts online. He posts the workout on Facebook and then people using a zoom app can see everyone else doing the workout. So this is in peoples own houses, gardens, garages etc with their own equipment. I find it hard on my own to motivate myself without actually being in the gym with other people so realistically I probably won't do the workouts.

Anyway today he posts the same workouts from the gym on a local site as "free workouts for the community" There has been no mention of cancelling payments or even reducing them for gym members. I am not in the gym or using equipment. Am I being unreasonable or would you still be expecting to pay full costs?

My gym has suspended direct debits during the time it is closed

Yes my gym has also frozen all memberships. Just email them or check their website

It is one guy running it. People were saying on Facebook that they would still be happy to pay. To be honest I would feel a bit cheated if I still had to pay but don't want to be the only one asking the question.

Mine is charging £10 a month freezing fee, and no online classes!

DianaT1969 · 24/03/2020 15:21

Why don't you just cancel your direct debit on online banking? Job done. If he wants to take you to court for breach of contract afterwards, good luck to him with that.

My gym has suspended all direct debits too.

Mine suspended payment automatically and is posting workouts on FB as well. I would suspend your membership .

playthestation · 24/03/2020 15:30
