Hi there, I appreciate this has been done a thousands times but just looking for some advice.

Me and DH classed as key workers, so the children could still go to their private nursery, and we could still go to work. We have jus recieved a communication that Nursery is closing at COB to ALL children.

I have emailed for where we stand with fees, as now one of us will be taking unpaid leave and we cant pay £1000+ a month with only one full time wage coming in. I have emailed to ask if we can pay a contribution or reduced rate to keep their places open, but what do I do if they refuse?

And slightly murkier waters still is they were open to key worker children today and yesterday but now not anymore....

What do I do ? I’m in a lose lose situation as is the nursery!

they have probably lost staff to self isolation/illness/reciving a text saying they have to stay in for 12 weeks.

This was always going to happen. They can only run as long as they can keep to safe ratios.

I don't know what they are going to do about fees. My nursery isn't charging.

They asked us to pay as normal earlier in the week but surely this can’t be the case now

It'll depend on your nursery and your contract. Big chains have more chance than a single stand alone.

The only people who can answer that is the nursery, but I would also have expected them to include that information when they told you they were closing. Personally I would be ringing, the phones are probably ringing off the hook so emails are being neglected.

I think the same would apply as it would apply to non-key workers. Are non-key workers being asked to pay for their spaces? If so, then I think the same policy applies unfortunately. Our nursery has closed (no idea if they are still open for key worker children, dh and I are not key workers, and the only parent of a child I know who does have a key worker parent is a sahm and she was still trying to send them as normal on Monday so she could have a day off to relax Hmm ). I think nurseries will have to come up with their own policies (though there may be some evidence of what they'll do in your contract). No word on what will happen to ours. I expect we'll have to pay 50% as that is usual policy when the nursery is closed. We're giving our notice soon anyway though - we're moving house in 2 months, so I don't think they'll open up again before we move.
