Can anyone shed light on why this was necessary? (Holiday park recording licence plate details)

Last week we left a holiday park having stayed for a week. On exiting the park each car was being stopped, names taken, and the licence plate of the car recorded. This obviously was related to the corona virus, but I can't quite work out how, and why the licence plates were needed.

Obviously, I don't mind at all as if it's necessary, so be it. But I've been puzzling over this for the past few days (time on my hands!) and am now posting to see if anyone can shed light on this for me? I'm sure there's a simple explanation but it's eluding me Grin

Thank you!

Probably monitoring who is using them, they should close now

think most holiday parks are just letting residents on at the moment

Thanks for the replies. Yes, they were closing for several weeks.

Maybe they thought that if there's an outbreak in that area it would help if anyone wanted to trace you, but afaik there's no attempt to do that now.

Shame they've closed. They're ideal to house all the vulnerable people in need of somewhere safe to stay. Women and children fleeing domestic abuse, vulnerably housed people, people (especially those with high risk conditions) living in hostels or one room HMOs who need their own bathroom and kitchen to properly self isolate.

In London hotels are trialling putting up rough sleepers. Hope it works out as many of them are extra vulnerable with high numbers suffering respiratory conditions. There's over a 1000 rough sleepers in London but plenty of now empty hotel rooms.
