Going shopping with my sister

Hi all,

My sister is a career and has 5 children. Her parter is currently off work so is able to stay at home to look after them whilst she goes shopping. Obviously because of her career status she can get early bird access to supermarkets. My question is am I able to go with her? Not for the sake of it to genuinely help her. Shopping for 5 children and two adults is much easier with two. Especially when she needs to pic up 4 packs of nappies all in different sizes along with everything else. We are also proud to say we are NOT bulk buyers and feel this whole situation with the way people are behaving in supermarkets is ridiculous!

Does anyone know if supermarkets are imposing any restrictions to people going in with those people who are key workers ?

Thanks

No because you are not a key worker and it may mean some actual key worker can't get to hospital to save lives!!

Canadianpancake · 24/03/2020 10:20

People are to go shopping by themselves, not take their family with them.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2020 10:20

No, you shouldn’t be seeing friends and family you don’t live with.

PennyGold · 24/03/2020 10:21

Nope. You don't live in the same house and therefore should not be seeing each other or going shopping.
I understand it's going to be hard for her, but we're in a state of emergency. She'll have to suck it up.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 24/03/2020 10:21

Do you live with her? If not, you shouldn't be meeting up with her. If you do, you should stay home and look after the kids whilst she goes out.

RealLifeHotWaterBottle · 24/03/2020 10:21

Surely she can use a trolley?

Crackerofdoom · 24/03/2020 10:21

Afraid not OP.

I am one of 5 children and DM did the shopping on her own every week for years.

Can she look at an standing Amazon order for nappies and other bulky items?

Porcelainskin · 24/03/2020 10:21

Why is it easier to shop for lots of people with an extra person? How will you help by being there? I don't think that is a good reason for you to go but open to being persuaded otherwise

SeriouslyRetro · 24/03/2020 10:22

I don’t understand why you think it’s a two person job. She has a trolley while she’s in the store. Does she drive? Is it a matter of not being able to transport all the goods via buses?

PestyMachtubernahme · 24/03/2020 10:22

No

She can go one day and then if they need more supplies her partner can go again a few days later.

YouJustDoYou · 24/03/2020 10:22

No. The instructions are very clear.

Chemenger · 24/03/2020 10:23

You can't go with her for the following reasons -

You are not a key worker.
You are not allowed to go anywhere with her, or be with her at all, unless you live with her.
Supermarkets will be enforcing distancing so you will not be allowed within two metres of her.

The rules are so simple, why do people insist on all this what-iffery?

wildthingsinthenight · 24/03/2020 10:24

You should only be spending time with the people in your household so if you don't live with her you shouldn't be seeing her anyway
And the special shopping time is for KW only one at a time

Mountian · 24/03/2020 10:25

NO!

You are not part of the same household. Not allowed.

Srslydontgiveacrap · 24/03/2020 10:25

For goodness sake, NO!

Barbie222 · 24/03/2020 10:26

No, I'm not sure why you would be of help even if you did go? She will have to use a trolley and stay 2m away from you anyway.

Gatehouse77 · 24/03/2020 10:27

Whilst I appreciate the it's a big shop for 7 people she needs to do it on her own.

It's tough but has to be done.

GreenTulips · 24/03/2020 11:05

Supermarkets will be enforcing distancing so you will not be allowed within two metres of her

That would apply in the car as well.

If your sister is a key worker she should know better.
