“Non-essential businesses and premises must now shut”?

This is a line from the Government announcement last night. Beneath is a separate section about businesses which must remain closed, but what counts as a non-essential business and premises?

This was not said. It said non essential shops are to shut and you are allowed to travel to and from work that you cannot do from home. Many people seem to think we are in complete lock down but we are not. Building sites for example are not closed. Suppliers of materials for such sites won't be classed as shops so will still be open - with purchases mostly being made online anyway. Boris Johnson brought in steps to make people who don't work stay at home and be sensible after a weekend of seeing people crowding to places in the sun. Stopping all businesses would have an even bigger affect on the economy which he isn't taking yet. My guess is that he is phasing it in.

This was our take on it anyway unless I have missed something else but Boris definitely didn't say close all businesses.

I thought it was just non essential shops. I was under the impression that businesses which aren’t generally open or o the public in the way shops are could stay open.

The business where DP works is still open. Those who can work from home are, including DP, but the workshop staff are going in in shifts to keep contact with others to a minimum.

However the advice is very clear. No one should be travelling to work unless it really cannot be avoided.

This says businesses to stay open.

It’s a joke that building sites are expected to remain open.
