Will car dealers still be open?

My sister works in car sales for a main dealer, she’s unsure if that means her workplace has to be closed?

DH is parts manager for Honda. They're going in to lock the business down in the morning. They're not an essential business.

My dh is workshop manager at a main dealer, they’re closing the service department at the end of the week, he has SO much work to clear before then it’s unreal ,he’ll be in there at 7am tomorrow and I doubt I’ll see him until after 7pm. I don’t know if the sales department is still running, but they have handouts going out this week so I guess they must be to a certain extent.

DH used to do retail at major dealers and reckons that they will be closed to mall sales but will arrange handovers/collections.

I am a key worker and have dusted my bike off rather than use public transport. I need a few essentials- lights, new saddle. I expect i’ll also need some ongoing maintenance stuff, inner tubes, puncture repair kits and the like.

I’ve tried online but amazon is prioritising “essential” deliveries and aren‘t delivering before the end of may. Plus i get a hefty emergency services discount from the local bike shop.

Indoor bike trainers are also selling out as people choose to exercise at home.

Hardware shops i can also understand- bit of silicone for a leaky bath, broken vacuums, new shower head, parts for broken pipes etc...people will need to do essential maintenance and things break.

They are closing the sales dept but the service dept is still open. He went in this morning to tie up loose ends. Handovers are still going on till the end of this week but its shut otherwise and handovers are been done at customers houses where possible. The Gov document is quite clear that car showrooms have to close but the garage side can stay open.

My DH was told yesterday they were closing at 6PM today...he got a text last night at 11.30pm saying not to come in to work as they are closing the business effective immediately

We have a new lease car coming and an old one going back
Well we did. As they can’t deliver the new car on the date agreed and have no idea when they can deliver it we have cancelled it with no penalty . They weren’t happy about me cancelling but nothing they can do .
They can’t guarantee they can pick up our old car and tried to say it was our problem and we have to hold on to it. But it won’t be insured so we are negotiating with them where we will keep the old car for a month at a time as long as they extend the warranty so we don’t end up with any unexpected bills .

Business as usual? He’ll be lucky.

Slightly disappointed in that I’d just managed to convince dh that I need a new car. Won’t be happening now. I’m not going anywhere except the supermarket.
