I wonder if schools / childcare providers will have to remain open

Given the latest announcement, any thoughts on whether schools / childcare providers will still remain open?

Oh my goodness, we've only just got organised! I hate this flip-flapping around.

Eggcited · 23/03/2020 20:49

Same here, it was a difficult day, but we muddled through. Now with the new announcements it seems counter productive to have groups of children / staff gathering in the same place.

Well if they don’t the NHS is screwed.

Siameasy · 23/03/2020 21:06

He didn’t mention schools so presumably key workers’ kids will still be able to go

Siameasy · 23/03/2020 21:07

As key workers DH and I must see the family member who helps us with childcare of DD. It’s either that or one of us stays at home. There isn’t a perfect solution I guess.

BackyardChickens · 23/03/2020 21:09

I’m still hoping private nurseries are shut down. Hopefully that will be enforced soon.

Barbie222 · 23/03/2020 21:09

I don't think there's any change to the current arrangements? Happy to stand corrected.

NerrSnerr · 23/03/2020 21:12

@BackyardChickens even for key workers? How will we work without a nursery?

june2007 · 23/03/2020 21:16

Well if my nursery shots down, teachers and pharmacists and nurses all have to find new child care or take leave, meaning less pharmacists and nurses. (We might close though.)

mumtumdocare · 23/03/2020 21:26

My child's school was open for an entire DAY this week. Pretty sure it won't last for long. Both DH and I are key workers so if we need the childcare one of us will have to stay off work meaning the NHS is a bod down.

BackyardChickens · 23/03/2020 21:26

You’re absolutely right that they need to stay open for key workers. The one in our village is still open to all and sundry! That needs to be stopped is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion - my fault.
