Who do I call about the deliberate spread of coronavirus?

Spit on door handles, walls and the buttons in the lift has become a daily occurance for us. I am self isolating as pregnant with young children but DP still needs to go to work as a key worker (not front line)
We live in a block of 50 families.
Over the last few weeks people have been spitting all over the comunal areas - focusing on every button on the lifts.
Not little spits- big dripping all the way down ones.

The council have refused to send someone to clean it. They also refused to log it in their system on saturday since no-one was going to attend covering their own backs
I was advised to log it with 101 police and they said someone should come out to sort it but if they have refused due to health and safety then there is nothing they can do.
In the meantime everyone who is coming in and out of the building have been put at risk.

This has been going on for weeks now but has ramped up since monday.
Me and my children are trapped in- i can't even take them to the field to run around now.

I have been disinfecting the door handles and lift buttons before and after i use them to try to be considerate while others are actively trying to scare and infect people.

I have called again and once again been told "we dont deal with this try someone else"
At least I got a number today. The last guy didn't know who i should call- just that i should call someone else.

The stairs arent much better- at least things are spread out.
-i avoid the stairs anyway after encountering urine, vomit and faeces (human and dog) and drug paraphernalia. But at least it was on the floor.

This is 10x worse for us at the moment because our house purchase ticket out of this disgusting bucket of concentrated Hell has been put on hold. We were so close to escaping and now we are trapped worse than before.

With hormones runing high from the pregnancy and the added stress of "why cant we go to school/ visit nanny and grandad/ go play outside" my mental health is sliding and I am worried about how I am going to cope with a newborn aswell.
I have had suicidal thoughts before but this is pushing me over the edge. Nobody is willing to help me. Everyone is fobbing me off. Nobody cares about us as we are clearly the scum of society living in a council flat. No more than ever.
Someone was arrested for coughing deliberately- isn't this the same? Who can I ask? I am completely desperate.

I don't know, but personally I'd just wear gloves. The type you wear for pulling petrol.

Oh god that sounds horrendous. Could you try your local MP? I’m really not sure how anyone could control it though given whoever it is will likely be acting without witnesses.

I really think that there is something in this pandemic that is triggering something fatalistic mentally in some people.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry. Some people are pigs and always have been. Wear gloves and don’t let them get to you Flowers

Take a photo/ vid on your phone and send it to local council, if no response get it online. That will soon get someone out to get it sorted, which it should, as there are cleaning companies who unfortunately do deal with such situations, and wear protective equipment. I appreciate
no one wants to put their staff at risk, but yourself and others should not be put at risk either. Unfortunately if your fellow residents are the kind of people who are capable of behaving in such a disgusting manner then they may carry on. All you can do is continue to be as hygienic as you can.
Does the lift have any CCTV?

Desperateforadviceplease · 23/03/2020 09:28

No cctv
I did ask if they would consider putting some cctv in since it clearly is needed (it was needed anyway- our last caretaker quit due to being threatened with a knife ffs- that didnt warrent cctv either)

People have started throwing rubbish from the windows and at the minute I cam't even blame them- I don't want to go to take the rubbish out either.

We have no more gloves but I will see if Dp can get some (not likely)
Mayne he could grab a few from the petrol garage (or is that just as bad?)

I will take a photo good idea.

I have contacted our local MP and he said he will do his best but is understandably very busy at the moment.

Goddamn it's always a crisis that encourages the lowest common denominator to display their idiocy/lunacy like the frayed feathers of inbred peacocks. They all come out of the woodwork. What jerks.
Poor you, OP. That truly sucks.

Carry tissues and touch the buttons and handles with those, then dispose of them, if you have no alcohol wipes or gloves.

This should be a criminal offence, like knowingly infecting someone with HIV is.

This sounds terrible for you OP. I'd continue to contact your MP and say this should be a priority atm. If they're on Twitter tweeting them there with pics can get a quicker response?

I called again and they are going to log the complaint now as antisocial behaviour.

I just cannot understand the mentality. Why would you want to do that.

Jesus that is unbelievable. I’d contact the papers, get the story published and Shane the council into action. Some people are pure scum, I just can’t understand the mindset of people, this is terrorism pure and simple.
I’m so sorry op Flowers

I've just had a call saying they will be sending out a newsletter to all residents asking for any information - even just rumours- and threatening to take action if the people are caught.

If it wasn't so disgusting out there and i wasn't such a scared little girl I would sit and check the lift every five minutes.

All this talk about people coming together and helping their community- i am so ashamed that it isnt happening in mine.

We can't even privately rent while we wait for the house purchase to go ahead (yes we are that desperate) because no one is doing viewings at the moment!
I really really do feel stuck

Wear gloves/stay inside. Bring disposable chopsticks to push buttons/ wear shoe covers

People that are behaving like that won’t care about police.

Also not just corona you could catch. Ew.

In dire emergency a plastic sandwich bag, with a rubber band round your wrist, could give you a layer of protection? It would get you past the lift buttons at least.

This is so sad. People can be vile. Wishing you all the best.

God OP that is dreadful Sad As others have said, I would post on social media and also try my local newspaper - and maybe a national paper like the Daily Mail as well?

Jesus, humans never fail to disgust me.

If you do go out, could you get the kids to collect twigs and then you could use them the press buttons and then throw away. Could make it into a game for the kids.

Contact local paper and tweet them and put it on facebook. If you are worried about repercussions, use a fake name and do new accounts on social media.

Private rent might not be out of the question op. I’m a landlord and have had tenants leave last week to go home to be with family. There are empty properties on the market
