Sainsbuys And Tesco It's Got Worse-No Delivery Slots At All Now.

Well the horror continues.
As we might all be facing compulsory lockdown which could come anytime should the Prime Minister decide to,it gets worse every day.
Well it HAS got worse.

I have just gone onto both the Tesco and Sainsburys website to see if there are any home delivery slots for groceries.
There are none, yes none at all.

A few days ago they had no slots for 6 weeks now they have none at all.

So how can we self isolate if we cannot get food?

If I can't get a delivery slot what chance do the elderly and vulnerable people have?

I can't believe things have got so bad.
More deaths in the UK the news on TV said.
When does it end?

I've had a delivery pass for a couple of years and book 3 weeks in advance so I've got this week's and next week's but after that nothing is available.

There has been no fresh stuff on the shelves for a couple of weeks and I can't go to the supermarket now DD is off school so I'm really hoping the panic buyers calm down when they see how much stuff they're binning.

Sainsbury's are implementing slots for the elderly I believe today, so it may be a software issue.

6 weeks ago, online shopping for groceries was not in the demand it is now. Sadly you can't scale up as quickly as demand has risen. Stock is still scarse even with home delivery. The supermarkets are trying their best with the resources they have.

If the government enforce a lockdown I don't think they will let us Starve.

This will sadly go on for a longer while yet. People need to start following government advice and taking this seriously.

How do the elderly get their slot?
When I go on the website there is nothing and when I click the dates for 4 weeks time-nothing.

Are they booked by telephoning their customer services then?

I had a Tesco slot for today, booked three weeks ago.
Tesco removed it yesterday. No email.

I had my shop delivered yesterday and got all the fresh fruit, milk, yoghurt and veggies that I ordered. The only things missed off were bread and frozen pizza. I'd read all the threads on here and worked myself into a frenzy that most food wouldn't arrive.

Sainsbury's is offering slots to the vulnerable first. I feel this prioritising is a little odd as most of the elderly won't online shop. Hopefully they'll release more slots for others. I don't mind a more inconvenient time slot if those most at risk get food first.

I've had more luck finding things in express shops and local 'Asian/Ethnic' grocery stores. Our tescos was striped bare, but the food shop over the road was fully stocked with fruit/veg/bread/cans/spices etc etc.

Asda still have click and collect if you can drive to collect it?

Otherwise, join 'nextdoor'. Our area has had 20+ people offer their hep to collect shopping, walk the dog, collect medications etc.

And some elderly people are least likely to have access to the internet, some can’t use mobile phones and can’t carry in shopping from the doorstep...Also, if family is not near and they are relying on friends, a lot of their friendship group is likely to also be elderly and SI atm.

What a ridiculous thing to say @blondehalo. Most elderly people have younger family and friends who can help. I have been placing orders for my elderly relatives. Also, not all 70+ year olds are completely computer illiterate.

Yes I have heard if you have a delivery pass you get priority. But there is just nothing now, no slots.

To tell you the truth before the crisis I was not using online groceries much because although you could get a slot in a day or 2.
When the drivers came a few items were missing and some of the drivers were not that nice.

They just want you to sign for delivery then they go. And it is only then you realise they have forgotten to give you some things you have ordered and payed for.

On one delivery they forgot to bring me my bag of suger I ordered and I had none.

Another time they forgot my bread and frozen food.

But when I phoned customer services all they would do was refund the money for it, they would not send someone to bring it round even though I asked them too.

Which is no good. Because even if they give you the money back for it, you still have not got it. So I ended up having to go to the supemarket anyway just to get my sugar and bread.

And another time when I ordered online from Sainsburys they gave me potatoes that were going bad.

I mean if I was in the shop I would not pick them up and put them in my basket. So why did they give them to me like that?

I will never order from Sainsburys again. I would use Tesco which are better but even they have sometimes forgot to bring me some items I have ordered and charged me for them without telling me or giving me substitutions.

So for this reason I had been avoiding shopping online for my food and went to the store instead. So the online grocery service was not all that good anyway and other people I talked to also had the same thing as I did-items missing and customer services fob you off and won't rearage delivery of missing items.

So yes it is better to go to the store to get them if you can go.

But now there are no delivery slots anyway and no food in the stores.
That's the worse thing.

Asda still have click and collect if you can drive to collect it?

Can't get a click and collect slot either.
I have tried that as well.

I went to Tesco on Saturday morning, got everything I needed including pasta and tinned tomatoes. Only two of anything allowed but absolutely no problems.

Forget delivery slots and go to the shop. The less you buy, the shorter time you are in the shop. Keep your distance.

And ask your elderly neighbours if they need anything while you are there. Then there are fewer people I. The shop, and the priority slots can go to elderly with no helpful neighbours.

Yeah I’ve had 3 deliveries cancelled now so have given up. I’ve been shopping (wearing gloves, taking antibac wipes and sanitiser) in the local ethnic and Polish places. I now have a new found love for herring with onion and pierogies!

It’s hard, but I’m trying to enjoy discovering new places and food.

Also have a look at your local restaurants on Instagram/Facebook. Lots of ones near me are doing food parcels and ingredients delivered which is helpful for basics like flour, eggs, pasta etc.

Sainsbury’s have said they’re offering slots to vulnerable customers first before releasing more to every else. So I think they’ve been holding them back.
I managed to get one at Asda for 13th April but I did log on just after midnight this morning (I happened to wake up and thought I’d check).

Just to remind you all, as you're very focused on the elderly, not only they are vulnerable. People can be vulnerable to this for many more reasons than age. My 50 year old mother would be more than able to order shopping of there were delivery slots: she has hepatitis, lung disease, chronic (25 years now) blood infections and a destroyed immune system due to medication. She's on full lockdown, can't even use her garden because it's small and so close to the neighbours who are using theirs. As would my extremely immunocompromised 31 year old friend with a toddler.

If this is because people like her, and every other person who really shouldn't be going, can get food, as stores like sainsbury's will be prioritising them, then I'm delighted. She's stocked up for now, but I'm looking at a 12 mile round walk to get food to her.

@herja the email from Sainsbury’s said they were using the data they had available - I think that’s mainly age and delivery instructions to figure it out but we’re working with the government to identify more. Hopefully GDPR won’t get in the way too much. But unless the supermarkets are given details then there’s limited they can do.
Hopefully this is where the community can step in. The large village I live is setting up a hub to help distribute food. The cafes are still ordering stock and passing it onto vulnerable customers. On Facebook people are offering help. At the moment It’s at a local level where something more individual can be done.

I think it totally depends where you are. My friend booked a Sainsburys slot on Saturday and had it delivered on Sunday with only 2 subs.

Tesco's seem to be offering a very limited service of what's available to buy for online shopping- I presume this makes it quicker for the pickers.

I am high risk due to health - how will any of these shops identify me? You would never know I have all these health problems by looking at me & I've never had to leave delivery instructions that would suggest I have a problem. I don't know how they're going to resolve this.

Even if you have symptoms f it go out and stand in the long queue to Get your shopping you need food and ppl have already proved whas selfish aholes they are

I'm not so sure my parents 70+ have for years for heavy things- my IL one just 70 other 68 don't for groceries but do for holidays, gardening seeds and amazon things.

Well surely I'd you were in that position you would have set the account up under the vulnerable persons details in the first place.

OP, glad to hear you think the deliver drivers are rude and that all in all you think it's a rubbish service. I suggest you don't bother with the inconvenience and just go to the shops instead.

I have a delivery pass. Have done for ages. I have shops booked for the next 3 weeks. I have items for my in laws who are in isolation, my neighbour who is elderly. Before I get flamed for saying I am hogging the slots.

I have never flagged up my account as vulnerable on Tesco, I wouldn’t know how! I’ll look it up but it may be too late now. Presumably I’d need some proof like a PIP letter but even that isn’t cut and dry is it.

They can use their account though @smoooth.
