My husband has an appointment to get a crown fitted on one of this front teeth so is insisting he goes ..I’m really not happy, I appreciate it’s a front teeth and he’s worried the temporary thing will fall out but we have a newborn baby and really don’t want to catch this.

I’m scared of our daughter getting ill and also of being really ill and not being able to look after her. We’ve had huge row as he insists on going but can’t think of anything more high risk than having someone’s hands in your mouth and being in such close proximity. Am I being overly paranoid?

The annoying thing is we are both self employed so managing to social distance very successfully, working from home etc so don’t want to mess it up.

Hands that are gloved, belonging to a person fully trained in cross infection control procedures, in a sterile environment with all persons int he room (except himself obviously) wearing face masks and personal protective equipment.

He would be at most risk in the waiting room. So I'd perhaps phone on arrival and tell reception that I'd prefer to sit in the car until the dentist was ready for me.

If his temporary failed he would have to go in anyways as an emergency appt, just at a later date.

A dentists sees so many people in one day, a few inches from their faces, even with protective gear of course it’s a massive risk. My very good dentist is shutting doors at end of this coming week as says risk is too high. Only open for v urgent emergency dental work.

There was an article recently on poor hygiene at the dentists as well so that decided it for me!

My dentist has cancelled all appointments. Worth checking it's still on

I’m half way through a root canal, I have an appointment this week.

Thing is it is quite painful and I don’t want to leave it for what could be another 8–10 weeks 😔. I’m more concerned that I could be the one to pass anything on to my dentist but he’s still open so I guess b they have high precautions in place.

Our dentist has also just cancelled all routine appointments

Bert2020 · 22/03/2020 19:56

DH had his appointment cancelled Friday. Worth checking.

TheLinerunner · 22/03/2020 20:25

Mine just cancelled too

perhapstomorrow · 22/03/2020 20:26

My dd had her appointment cancelled. Looks like she'll have her braces for a while longer!

forestsmurf · 22/03/2020 21:34

Most dental.practices are change to emergency only from next week on new guidance from our union. They may not have had chance to call to cancel yet.

Wordofwarning · 24/03/2020 10:40

So, it’s definitely emergency appts only. I’ve had dialogue this morning with my dentist, I have a cracked tooth and half done root canal -‘this is considered an essential appt as the temp filling won’t last the duration which could then cause a much worse problem shortly.

AvocadoOwl · 24/03/2020 10:42

Some emergency dentists are all set up for suspected covid19 patients.
I had an emergency appt on Friday for a broken tooth, Dentist was lovely and had fantastic ppe, she was only able to glue a plastic cap on my tooth, luckily my filling was stable.
I had my temperature taken on arrival then sat isolated for nearly an hour, possibly to check if I was coughing? Either that or they were disinfecting the treatment room as a man left as I arrived.
It was their last day treating ordinary patients as they were designated the area covid19 centre.
