Covid
The schools aren’t really shut there can’t be social distancing.

With the majority of parents still planning on sending their children to school even if they aren’t key workers (lazy, entitled etc) schools will be filled to capacity.
So whilst people on MN say people are taking the mickey out of social distancing (never mind the insane numbers of people in supermarkets etc) how about taking a look at the parents who will let their kids still go to school. That’s selfish.

Don't be so short sighted
Do you want people to go out and help others in this time of crisis or not? Do you really think anyone who COULD stay at home with their kids would be choosing to go to work?
Bulb1976 · 22/03/2020 17:08
School is now for key workers only. If you aren’t a key worker than you have no right to send your child to school.
Wolfiefan · 22/03/2020 17:14
Our schools are clear. Children stay at home unless it is absolutely impossible for them to do so safely.
Finfintytint · 22/03/2020 17:15
Are schools not asking for evidence of a parent being a key worker?

Harder to do in a Secondary of 1600+ but they are trying and yes, most schools are doing the best they can in checking. They cannot check against those bending the truth about it being the last resort though.
JustDanceAddict · 22/03/2020 17:44
I can guarantee you - I work in a school - that parents who are at home and perfectly able to look after their children are planning to send them in.
sundayfeelingbah · 22/03/2020 17:49
We had parents on Friday saying that they were entitled to a place in school because the children’s father (who they have no contact with) is on the key worker list. Another who said it’d be difficult for her to have them at home because they don’t get along with their siblings. Another who said dad works nights in a supermarket and it would be hard to keep the child quiet while he sleeps. All of those are SAHMs.
starrynight19 · 22/03/2020 17:52
When schools are expecting 200+ students social distancing is still going to be very difficult.
I hope that parents having had time to put other measures in place over the weekend will have done so.
Also that key worker children are not in school fully time and only when their parents shift work needs it.
Hopefully this week will make things clearer for schools.
Myfriendanxiety · 22/03/2020 17:52
Maybe they will change their mind when they realise in our school the children are going to be sat 2 desks apart, no contact closer than 2m and they will be independently doing the same work as the students who are at home.

@Bulb1976 I’m a radiographer. Every single covid-19 will need at least one if not multiple chest X-rays. All ventilated patients will need their access lines checked and their ventilator intubation tube checked too. I’m needed at work, I’m a lone parent and right now my only childcare is grandparents which is strongly advised against!
Bulb1976 · 22/03/2020 19:44
Flouncy that isn’t fair you really are a key worker
Jackrusselsarecute · 22/03/2020 19:48
Flouncy that’s awful, please speak to school again about your role. Our school FB is full of parents now saying they don’t need care anymore so hopefully it will be the same in your area and you will bogey priority. People like you are who this system is for, there are too many claiming they need it when in reality they have other options. Thank you for what you do and good luck

"School is now for key workers only."
There are other categories as well. The major problems I see are the key worker category is too large and key workers are sending kids in when they don't need to.
