Many went until after WW1&2, many of the remainder survived only by turning into commercial ventures - living museums, cafes, shops, destinations for weddings, filming locations, wildlife parks etc.
Such venues are now shut for the foreseeable.
Maintenance and repair costs will plod on, the fixed cost of maintaining the business facilities will also continue.
I think we're about to see another post war era set of large family home sell offs.
