Bin idiots-help me defeat them

I'm putting this in coronavirus as I believe this act of selfishness is because people are worried about bin collection being cut.

Someone is putting their binbags in our wheelie bin. Not just one bag- they've made 3-4 separate visits over the last few days. We know it is the same people because they use 'distinctive' binbags according to my DH.

Bin collection isn't for 12 days and we now can't get anything in our bin. They've stuffed it so full that we can't close the bin. We've got a child in nappies, I'm not happy!!!

I know that this is a minor issue with what's going on but I've got time on my hands and I want to stop them from doing it. Please help me. How can I beat the Bin Wankers???

Funny you mention an alarm, Luna. I've been doing some research, and it turns out you can get magnetic alarms for cupboards. I see no reason why they wouldn't work on a wheelie bin. I've ordered one from Amazon. Hopefully it will alert me and I'll be able to see where they scurry back to, so I can return their bags of England shirts and pizza boxes.

Will save the exploding dye business for next time DH leaves the lid off the toothpaste

Also, don't think they can complain about my bin alarm as they would have to admit they'd had their paws on my bin in the first place.

Can you check neighbors bins for the same bags?

gamerchick · 22/03/2020 22:03

Just get a bin lock. They're designed so they open when emptied into the wagon.

Or use the drill and padlock option upthread.

shreddednips · 22/03/2020 22:07

We will get a bin lock, we will install it as soon as I've returned the bags to their rightful owner.

Good idea about checking for the bags...

Can you check neighbors bins for the same bags?

Genius!!

shreddednips · 22/03/2020 22:10

It is genius! They are very distinctive, as DH said.

I had this at xmas! Went out on xmas day to put wrapping paper/boxes etc in recycling and next door who clearly got up earlier than us had filled hers and then put the overflow wrapping paper/boxes into mine and completely filled it.
I took it out and put it on the floor by her bins... next time I went out she had squashed it back into mine and my lid wouldn't shut. I took it back out and she put it back again.
Really wish I had made a thread on here at the time, I was livid!
Exploding dye, bin alarms and magic lock suggestions would have been amazing.

PlomBear · 22/03/2020 23:03

I think that the council might be a tad busy right now.

Dotty1219 · 22/03/2020 23:07

Just dropping a comment so I can follow the outcomeWink

Hidingtonothing · 22/03/2020 23:11

I've got a NDN like that Avoiding, DH lost his rag and dumped the lot on her doorstep the last time she tried it, it's been a while ago actually so it may well have done the trick and put her off trying again Smile

averylongtimeasLangCleg · 22/03/2020 23:21

What we need is a diagram OP

theneighbourswindchime · 22/03/2020 23:25

Distinctive bin bags!!!

I'm imagining a naice chintz pattern,

I'm guessing yellow handle ties?

EggysMom · 23/03/2020 07:26

Don't go for looking in a neighbour's bin to see if they use the same distinctive binbags - you might find that the CF produce so much rubbish, they are also using that neighbour's bin! I think watching for the CF is a good idea, but they could still deny all the earlier bags were theirs, so you need to check the CCTV also.

Plexie · 23/03/2020 07:41

Yes, it sounds like someone is having a clear out and distributing their rubbish in other bins. Maybe ask your neighbours if their bins are being misused by the CF too as it would be unlikely the CF is just targeting your bin.

SandyFire · 23/03/2020 07:51

Love the alarm idea. That’s gonna make them jump!

shreddednips · 23/03/2020 08:34

Sadly not chintz, although I spot a business idea when all this is done! No, they are very large white bags with orange ties. I would describe the exact hue as EasyJet Orange.

Perhaps they're not that unusual, but I haven't seen them before!

Good point about them possibly putting stuff in other bins too, I wouldn't like to wrongfully involve another party in Bin Wars. This is between me and Bin Wanker

shreddednips · 23/03/2020 08:35

Have also ordered a bin lock. But first I would like to make Bin Wanker jump

shreddednips · 23/03/2020 08:35

Will make diagram later, don't worry. It will be detailed.

SandyFire · 23/03/2020 22:07

Now we’re on lockdown hopefully you’ll have extra time to do this diagram

LonelyFromCorona · 22/04/2020 00:22

@shreddednips any update on this? Would love to hear if you figured out who it was and what was said to them

LabStaff · 22/04/2020 06:05

I love this thread 😄 - I hope the alarm works, and gives them a fright.

Someone put a bag of dog poo in out recycling bin once.

ivykaty44 · 22/04/2020 06:10

Treacle on the bin lid
A not to warn them you’ve put cctv
Fit a sensor light right over the bin

FTMF30 · 22/04/2020 06:36

What if it's your neighbour?
