My cleaner hadn’t been working out and I had found a replacement. We were meant to be away this week, so I had planned to let my old cleaner know we wouldn’t need her any more and then get the new cleaner to start once we got back. Obviously trip is no longer happening. Had to cancel old cleaner’s last session as we’d self-isolated by then, and she did know about the holiday.

But what to do? Don’t want anyone coming. Have told new cleaner we won’t be able to have her after all. Don’t want to leave old cleaner in the lurch as I assume a lot of clients are cancelling, but I had decided two weeks ago that I was going to let her go. Shouldn’t have waited, clearly, but how was I to know all this was going to start?!

Pay her even though she’s not coming, and I’ve mentally fired her? Pay her for a set period of time only? Don’t pay? WWYD?

Suggest you keep paying her for a while and wait and see how things go. We are still paying our martial arts teacher, we can afford it and the money will help her.

If you were planning on firing her, I think I would offer to continue pay for the next month only.

Give her notice
