I know no-one on the internet can diagnose etc but perhaps people who have already had it themselves or are knowledgeable about the symptoms can advise.
DD went to London in January to visit her girlfriend. She came home on Saturday 25th after 3 days of travelling by tube, theatre visits etc. On Sunday 2 Feb I was sitting on the sofa reading when suddenly I felt really strange, woozy and tight chested with an agonising sore throat, which was unlike any I'd ever had before - like there was a sharp, hot stone stuck in one side of my throat. Within a few hours I had a fever, aching legs (as if there was something heavy across my shins) and a cough. It all came on so suddenly - literally, fine one minute and felt dreadful the next, I could feel it come over me like a wave. Totally knocked me for six.
3 days later DD and DH both had exactly the same thing happen - both extremely sudden onset, exactly like me. I was still unwell but the fever had gone down - still coughing and with a sore throat though. DD pretty much shrugged it off after a few days but the sore throat and cough hung around. DH however got much worse to the point where he could barely breathe, so he went to the GP. This was when the advice was only to avoid going the GP with symptoms if you'd recently returned from China. GP said his chest was congested and gave him antibiotics, which still hadn't worked two weeks later. He's ok now though still finds it hard to catch his breath.
And DD's girlfriend had all the same symptoms as us in the same timescale.
Given that London is a few weeks ahead of the rest of the country (we're in the NE), does it sound possible that we've had it? It was like no other cold/virus/flu any of us had ever had in that the cough felt suffocating and it wasn't productive, and that weird sore throat. It's left all of us feeling zapped of energy too, even now.
What really set me about wondering was the new symptom I've seen today - none of us could smell or taste anything for a week or so. At the time we all said it was like having a cold with no snot, because of the sore throat and impaired taste/smell. But then there was the cough, too. I really, really hope we haven't because we've been to work/uni/bars etc way before the advice about self isolating was a thing.
