I don't understand this 80% salary thing

I work for a small business and will realistically have to stop working soon due to being a single parent and having no long term childcare for 6yo DS, my job can't be done from home.

So does that mean I will qualify for the 80% salary payment from the government? How will it work, will my employer have to request it? I don't really understand how it works.

Hi, im in the same position as you. I cant find any info anywhere on it other than it would be parental leave and you dont get paid for that. Ive been up all night worried about it. Some clearer advice needs to put out about it. X

I thought that it was for employed people who cannot work because their company cannot trade / has no work for them due to coronavirus. It’s instead of people being laid off/made redundant or put on unpaid leave because there is no work for them to do. Therefore the 80% pay is coming from the government because your employer cannot afford to pay you.

My understanding is if that if your employer is still able to run/trade as normal and your job is not at risk, but you as an employee cannot work for whatever reason, this pay won’t apply.

Yes i think your correct.
Nothing as yet about for parents who have to be off to take care of children.
Im rather shocked tho as there will be so many in the same position x

Thanks for clarifying. Been told I might get laid off anyway in 2 weeks so we will see!
