To think that places of worship also need to be closed

Does anyone else think churches, mosques and other places of worship should be forced to close? Obviously mass gatherings of people are not a good idea right now. I haven’t seen any mention of it yet though?

They have. Most did last weekend before well before the pubs and restaurants were closed down.

Ours closed on Monday for services but remains open for personal prayer at certain times each day.

I'm in Ireland, churches here are streaming mass, have been for a while.

thanksamillion · 21/03/2020 12:23

Every church I know of is closed and most did so after it was discussed in parliament earlier in the week. Lots of services being broadcast on Sunday and we're keeping in touch via Facebook etc.

DippyAvocado · 21/03/2020 12:23

Our C of E church is closed for services though the building is open if you want to go in and pray.

Lycidas · 21/03/2020 12:23

Yes they need to be closed. Many mosques have closed of their own will, but some others remain open and are still leading large congregational prayers. It’s incredibly reckless. They’re even saying things like ‘we’re waiting for a national shutdown; until then we remain open’.

Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 12:26

Church services are generally suspended at the moment, some are being live streamed. Churches are opening at times during the day for people to pop in if they want to but not to congregate, at least that's how it is round my way. I saw on TV an imam saying he was doing the same with the mosque.

It seems like most places are closing but there are still idiots out there.

religionnews.com/2020/03/21/catholic-cardinal-burke-says-faithful-should-attend-mass-despite-coronavirus/

Burke noted that just as people are able to continue going to pharmacies and supermarkets, the faithful “must be able to pray in our churches and chapels, receive the Sacraments, and engage in acts of public prayer and devotion, so that we know God’s closeness to us and remain close to Him, fittingly calling upon His help.”

Many priests throughout the country have looked for alternative ways to practice the Catholic faith and maintain a community with their flock, especially through the use of social media and livestreaming. Others have instead put themselves on the front lines by administering the sacraments to the sick and dying or attending to the needs of their local hospitals.

“There is no question that great evils like pestilence are an effect of original sin and of our actual sins. God, in His justice, must repair the disorder which sin introduces into our lives and into our world,” Burke wrote.

The cardinal criticized pop culture for being distant from God, offering examples such as abortion, euthanasia and “the pervasive attack upon the integrity of human sexuality.”

“We cannot simply accept the determinations of secular governments, which would treat the worship of God in the same manner as going to a restaurant or to an athletic contest,” he wrote.

Irresponsible twat.
