Daughter and part time job - can you just refuse to go?

Daughter has a weekend job at costa coffee. This is still open as they do a take away service. They have set it out well, no one comes very close to the counter, it’s all cashless BUT behind the counter is close so co workers will be closer than ‘social distancing’. So they said for her to not go today as reducing staff but expect her in tomorrow.
We think she should just quit - can you do this with no notice as she has a signed contract??

Pff yeah of course she can just quit but I guess they could withhold wages if they're going to dicks about it. They should be shut anyway now though?

Cafes are allowed to turn into takeaways only

She won't get paid if she doesn't go ..

Not worried about pay, she’ll have nothing to spend it on anyway as can’t go anywhere !! It was for driving lessons and these have now been cancelled. I give her an allowance each month which was for train fare and lunches to college so I will keep up with that so she has some money for online shopping!

Then she should quit! Screw it!

StrongMama1989 · 21/03/2020 09:28

I don’t get you? Why wouldn’t she just quit?!

Janus · 21/03/2020 09:38

I somehow feel guilty as she’s worked there a while as it relies on this sort of staff at the weekend, they were already short staffed. I know 🙄, time for me to get a grip!

she can tell them she's self isolating and see where that goes

Janus · 21/03/2020 09:44

I think she’ll just be honest, she can say her mum insists!! The manager has been really good to her so I do feel for him, he works ridiculously long hours to keep it all ticking over, hope he keeps his job.

In the nicest possible way if she quits they will hire someone else in less than a day. Loads of people are looking for work right now. For her own safety she should quit.

Felipe, hope so, thank you.
