I work PT and my husband is self employed. We have been just about managing for a while. Boris Johnson said that people who do the right thing should not be penalised. I and Dd (6) have COVID-19 symptoms and so we, DH and DD (12) are self isolating.
We rent, live in London (where we are ahead of the curve) and are both in a high risk group which means we might need to self isolate for 12 weeks.
We have been hanging on all week to find out what financial help we will get. All we have know. Since Monday is we can't be evicted for 3 months which isn't exactly reassuring.
Today we discover that whilst if you are employed you will get 80% of your salary, if you are self employed you get £94 per week sick pay and universal credit. Why are self employed being discriminated against ?
In top of that, universal credit has a housing allowance component which is up to 30% towards your rent. How on earth are we going to keep a roof over the head of our 2 children snd put food on the table, pay our bills and debts on that.
Absolutely terrified
