There are always those in the business world who gain in any national or global crisis - who will it be in this one?

Supermarkets
Hand sanitiser companies

Locally to me (rural area), small independent foot retailers who buy or sell direct from the producers. Our butchers this morning were telling us how manically busy they've been, lots of local eggs/veg/farm shop type places are delivering and run off their feet. Also cafes and pubs which have shut are running similar services and doing well.

It's heartening to see, I'd been worried those kind of businesses would go under.

Thank you @PicsInRed coming on to say just that, I'm in manufacturing that supplies the funeral trade, I also used to be an FD I can tell you we are definitely expecting to struggle. We sell an essential item that's used for every funeral but it isn't something funeral directors will think about purchasing in the next few months if they are run off their feet.

Even coffin manufacturers will suffer as if it gets bad it will be a very simple funeral and they might even bypass funeral directors, if it gets really bad.

I think it's cause I'm stressed but if I have one more person joke with me and say oh you'll be fine I'm going to scream Angry or probably explain why we won't be!

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/03/2020 23:36

And has anyone actually seen the age of a lot of workers within funeral directors, not the people in the offices who arrange funerals but the bearers and conductors.

It's a strongly acknowledged problem within the industry young people aren't interested in doing it, so I suspect a fair few of the workers will either get I'll or need to self isolate.

MiniMum97 · 20/03/2020 23:38

The supermarkets seem to be doing pretty well!!

People are printing more. Schools are emailing work. Parents are also printing worksheets from educational websites. Printing is back.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 20/03/2020 23:38

I saw an independent distillery on tv, from Ireland, than are starting to make hand sanitisers. They have the pure alcohol, obviously and have realised that they can keep their company afloat by diversifying. I thought that was a great idea. They save their business, keep their staff in work and produce something that will benefit others.

I work in a vape shop, people are quitting smoking in unprecedented numbers in an attempt to help themselves if they do contract the virus.
Also, the PG in e liquid has antibiotic and antiviral properties so its been reported that it may help.
