80 percent of salary

Does this include those who are self isolating due to being classed as vulnerable? The people who need to take time off for childcare? Or just the people whose employers have closed i.e restaraunt workers, cinema workers, pub workers etc?

It includes employees of firms who would normally let them go because they are no longer needed. Eg the business is no longer making a profit and needs to reduce costs

If they keep them on the books (employed - even if there is no actual work for them to do) they can claim 80% of the salary they pay them back again.

The employee still gets 100% salary unless they come to a different agreement with their employer.

Self isolating people are sick so get their normal employer or statutory sick pay.

Taking time off for childcare depends on time off policies. Eg some people might take annual leave or unpaid parental leave or have an arrangement to make up hours at another time. That kind of thing.

I don’t think that’s the default position

I think the employee only gets the additional 20% if their employers agree to top it up.
