Very lighthearted obviously!

Currently I'm working out how to work from home, educate my 7 yo & entertain my toddler (who has a speech delay). I wonder if I can volunteer to be put on a retainer at work so I can manage to do some of this!

I know it’s lighthearted but I’d say no one wants to make themselves look dispensable right now

The payments should be for people who genuinely can’t work anymore such as tourism and hospitality industry

yes hence why I said lighthearted!

Although thinking about Im sure I read earlier in the week you are only entitled to full pay when wfh if you can actually do your job. Is that true? How are people managing it alongside childcare?

That would depend entirely on your company. My company has said that if we have to charge time to "childcare" while schools are closed, that time will be paid. This is subject to constant review and I think obviously it will be revoked if people take the piss.

@moochpooch yes sorry, they've given us a specific code for our timesheets and if we can't do our contracted hours due to needing to care for kids that would otherwise be at school/nursery we will still be paid in full. It doesn't apply to staff who will need be off for weeks, just staff who might need a few hours off here and there as they juggle childcare around.

@meredithgrey1 that's good of your employer. My employer has seemed open to me working outside of my normal hours but I'm unsure how that will work in practice & if I'm capable of a good standard.

@TheMemoryLingers I know! this week has been mental but distracting & I actually really like my job. I'm scared how I will cope with the dc!

I haven't left the house for over a week, so my phone calls and online messaging with my colleagues as we all WFH are assuming far more interest than they ever did before! 'Could you have a quick look at this spreadsheet for me?' is a positively thrilling invitation at the moment.

No volunteering here, day 1 of wfh and I’m missing work already. 2 adult D.C. who from tomorrow will be here all the time and winding each other up. Add a grumpy DH to the mix (currently wfh 50% of the time)and I’ll need the light relief of my job and I am not sure I trust my employer to keep people on. Not me but my team.

I'm happy to wfh, it's more the juggling of educating & entertaining

Fortunately, I don't have any children to entertain. Just have to stop the cats banging my laptop shut with their heads or popping up in front of me during a video conference! Grin
