To wonder why they shut so early

Local chemist attached to the doctor is open until 6:30. Went up at 4 to pick up my daughter's inhaler and prescription aspirin for me. Massive queue and only 2 at a time allowed in (fair enough).
Branch manager comes out at 4:15 and says they are only serving next 3 people, even though most people have prescriptions waiting. She says come back tomorrow.
Why on earth would they shut 2 hours early a a time like this? From my point of view it's not too bad I can wait. Bloke next me says his son has been released from prison and needs medication for his mental health. They still refused.
It surely doesn't take 2 hours to serve 3 people.

how would anyone on here know?

Samcro · 20/03/2020 17:05

Lack of staff

Rosebel · 20/03/2020 17:28

I don't think a lack of staff would mean they shut that early. I'm sure if the supermarket I work at shut 2hours early people would be up in arms. Isn't prescribed medicine quite important?

Maybe they had an emergency!

BeansOnToast4T · 20/03/2020 17:30

I'm sure they had a valid reason! Perhaps the pharmacist was ill or had a family emergency - they can't dispense without the pharmacist on the premises
.

OhLook · 20/03/2020 17:31

If they had coronavirus symptoms they'd have to leave.. How many people work in a chemist?

OlaEliza · 20/03/2020 17:31

An emergency that meant they could serve 3 more people?

Redglitter · 20/03/2020 17:31

The pharmacies in my area have all reduced their hours. They're struggling to cope with the increase in prescriptions and are closing in the middle of the day for a few hours to try & catch up

Skittlesss · 20/03/2020 18:01

I think perhaps they needed the loo, they thought they could serve everyone but then their ex came in and was number 5 in the queue. They slipped a little turtle’s head out and figured they couldn’t wait, so decided to serve only 3 more people so it wasn’t as obvious that they didn’t want to serve their ex.

strawberry2017 · 20/03/2020 18:06

Lack of drugs delivery's possibly, or needing time to make the requests up.
People are panic stocking up on medications too and they need to be able to concentrate to make sure things are done right.

Ihateselfishbastards · 20/03/2020 18:14

I reckon they did it deliberately to piss everyone off, rather than some valid reason!

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 20/03/2020 18:19

Probably just to give everyone something else to grumble about. They know how everyone loves complaining. Consider it their gift to you.

sleepyhead · 20/03/2020 18:21

If the pharmacist had to leave then they have to shut. Could have been for any reason.

Nicketynac · 20/03/2020 18:26

Just saw this on FB

To wonder why they shut so early
Nicketynac · 20/03/2020 18:27

Don’t know if photo uploaded, will probably appear a hundred times now. Basically advice for pharmacies to close and let staff recharge themselves and restock shelves

To wonder why they shut so early
Nicketynac · 20/03/2020 18:27

Aargh there it is twice sorry

Rosebel · 20/03/2020 18:57

Okay no need to be sarcastic. It was just a simple question.

Ours was closing early because the staff have to sanitize everything before they can go home and it takes ages.

CharlieTangoBanana · 20/03/2020 19:02

One pharmacist covering multiple chemists where I live due to exposure, each is open two hours a day. Seems perfectly fair to me.

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 19:04

have you any idea the stress retail workers are experiencing??

the 'customers' have all turned vile and demanding. the staff left working are picking up the slack and its taking its toll now

and also....if they are working long hours to serve the public, then how can they buy any food to feed their family when they finally get home??

they then do it all again the next day

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 19:05

and yes...retail workers are sitting ducks for all the infected people to flock towards....what an attitude

britnay · 20/03/2020 19:11

Please can people pay with cards instead of cash wherever possible!!!!!!

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 20/03/2020 19:12

The supermarket near me shut at lunchtime because they ran out of food. People were annoyed.

shinyredbus · 20/03/2020 19:14

Honestly - unless you asked them and find out, how would we know? I’m guessing they didn’t do it out of spite and had a decent reason.

neverearlythoughItry · 20/03/2020 19:16

Our pharmacy is overwhelmed and is now closing at 3pm every day to try to fill more prescriptions.
