Hello everyone,

I have worked in a small hotel for the last year and as of yesterday we have been 'laid off' I have no information about how long this is going to last but in the current climate and knowing a little about the how well the hotel was doing anyway I cannot see this being anytime soon.

Please please please could you share your practical advice with me about how I can survive this financially. What should I do first? Can I apply for any benefits or help from the government in this instance? My partner works in the NHS and can bring home around £2000 a month when also doing bank but this isn't enough to cover every bill and feed our family of 2 adults and 2 children. The house is mortgaged.

Thank you in advance.

Can you apply for mortgage holiday asap? Cancel all you can.

Supermarkets are crying out for extra staff.

Almost all of them are offering fast track interviews and start dates. Fixed contracts for 3 months minimum if that helps?

Have a look at this link on what benefits to apply for:

Ring your local nhs trust and local homecare agency and ask if they need staff. In my area they are offering training and no experience needed. A lot of old people are in hospitals waiting for packages of care, but there aren’t enough carers in the country!
