So confused about private crèches

I’m in Northern Ireland, so the schools officially close today, but my child’s crèche and another one I know off have said they are staying open until the government tells them to close.

However in the Republic of Ireland, when the schools closed, the crèches did too.

What’s happening with crèches where you are? Also what’s happening with fees?

I don’t understand why this is up for debate but you’re isn’t the only one. Our nursery says they don’t count as they’re private but I think they’re wrong. The government said Nurseries, schools and colleges. They didn’t add “only the government ones”. Our private school is closing, so why not the private nursery? It’s infuriating me!!!!

PS we’ve been told re fees that if we choose to remove our children we have to keep paying 75% of our fees to hold the place. I’m hoping the government will get it’s shit in order soon and announce funding for this so nurseries don’t have to force our parents who can’t afford to keep paying.

I'm also in NI, and our nursery is still open. I think there was clarification here yesterday that the dept of health isn't expecting them to close yet.

We're very torn about what to do tbh. At the minute, we're leaving DD in while we work from home. So, aside from the food shop, she's the only one out mixing with a small number of people.

We're still being paid, so happy to pay the creche. They're looking into reduced fees if they have to close.

It's all very confusing and I would nearly prefer for them to make a decision to close.

I'm in Northern Ireland and my creche is open too. I don't understand it - how is it ok to have creches open while schools close.

My kids were sent home with a temperature and have to self isolate for 14 days so they're out at minute but I'm not planning on sending them back until schools reopen. The creche sent an email saying fees must be paid in full or lose your place.

Private nurseries and crèches should be closed. Appalling that they aren’t closed. Hopefully they will be forced to close soon.

I agree, I was hoping the decision would be made for me. We have also been told if we choose to keep our child home we’ll have to pay full fees to keep him place. If we don’t pay, his name will join the bottom of the waiting list.

Me and my husband are both working from home, so it’s impossible to entertain an 18mth old.

For now I’ll be bringing him to crèche, but will be basing it day-by-day.
