Refused a loaf of bread because I wasn’t a local

One of my clients has been self isolating for the last week because he has a terminal illness.
They want to continue to pay me (I’m s cleaner) so I’m doing washing & ironing and dropping it back & leaving it in their garage.
Yesterday they asked me if I could get some shopping for them & leave it outside their door.
I went to 3 shops yesterday & 3 this morning but couldn’t get any bread.
The last shop, a village shop near them, had bread but wouldn’t sell me any because they didn’t recognise me .
I even gave my clients name in hope they’d recognise him but they still refused.
The world feels like a very surreal movie right now 😩
