Milkman

Our Milkman has become so overwhelmed with new customers they aren’t accepting any more.

But will these customers still carry on paying 81p per bottle delivered when the crisis is over. Or are they simply a nuisance jamming up the system for faithful regulars.

Milk and more is a massive company that pays peanuts to the farmers for milk.

ferretface · 20/03/2020 20:50

In the absence of a local dairy farm I'm afraid it's milk and more or the supermarkets for us so pretty much all the same. Have our own chickens but cannot fit Doris the cow and Bilbo the bull and their calves in the back garden ;)

Casino218 · 20/03/2020 20:53

My milkman is about 90 - hope he doesn't catch it!

HonestlyItsFine · 20/03/2020 20:55

Milk and more have had to put a message on their webpage saying to be responsible, so I expect people are going mad on there too.

BooseysMom · 20/03/2020 21:00

Our milkman delivered just half what we ordered and i wondered if the stuff had been half-inched from our doorstep but the dairy said it was due to shortages from increased orders

Splodgetastic · 20/03/2020 21:03

I had been about to switch to the milkman a while ago and fortunately already had an account set up. I was seriously impressed with the service. My local greengrocer also, although I’ve been using him forever.

Blueuggboots · 20/03/2020 21:04

I've just moved house and have struggled to get a milkman here when we've had a milkman for ages at the old house!

480Heath · 20/03/2020 21:05

I have used Milk and More for years, they are not accepting any new customers.

Splodgetastic · 20/03/2020 21:05

I don’t feel bad about it. I hardly ever use supermarkets, but I can’t go to shops anymore, so it makes sense to get things delivered however I can.

BooseysMom · 20/03/2020 21:08

Watch that prog 'Back in time for the Corner Shop'. It's brilliant

airforsharon · 20/03/2020 21:18

I've used the milkman for a long time but I'm hoping that new customers get to realise what a fantastic service they're going be having with milk delivered to their front door and keep using it.

Same here. My milkman usually delivers around 6am - daughters who sleep in our front bedroom said they heard him arrive at 2am this morning. The Milk & More service saved my bacon when I was very ill for a long time, about 3 years ago, and I stayed with them. I hope some of the people who've turned to them now are able to, too.

nellodee · 20/03/2020 21:22

They do sometimes come in the middle of the night. I fell asleep on the sofa once, and at about 2 am, someone came creeping into our front garden with a lamp on their helmet. I nearly pooed myself. Didn't connect for a second that it was actually the milk man.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 20/03/2020 21:34

Milk & More are great - lots of ethical products and all delivered before we wake up.

airforsharon · 20/03/2020 21:36

nellodee Grin I had similar once with an Amazon delivery just before xmas. Bloody great torch beam streaming through the glass panel on my front door around 10pm. I nearly screamed.

daisypond · 20/03/2020 21:38

But are not accepting new orders, and they pay their suppliers a pittance.

ferretface · 20/03/2020 21:40

@BooseysMom oh no, did you order just milk or any other things?

ferretface · 20/03/2020 21:43

@daisypond well then don't order from them then. Leave them for "the rich" like me, employed by the NHS Smile

BooseysMom · 20/03/2020 21:50

@ferretface.. well funnily enough the milk came and it was the yoghurts and milkshake for DS that didn't arrive. If we can't get basics like potatoes, eggs and bread we might see if we can get them from the milkman but prob won't be able to.

daisypond · 20/03/2020 21:50

I can’t order from them. They aren’t accepting new orders. And I am a key worker on less than average national salary living in London - and no London weighting.

sashh · 21/03/2020 04:15

I'm often awake when the milkman arrices, the first time I spoke to him I gave him a bit of a shock.
