Just wondering what’s anticipated later in the update?

Hopefully more clarity on gcses and grading.

Pteuropa · 20/03/2020 07:51

Hopefully they’ll tell us what the actual fuck is going on!

AgnesNaismith · 20/03/2020 07:52

Rishi Sunak will be on with Boris later, I think they will be talking about help for individuals and the aviation industry. Boris made a point of saying no ‘workers’ will lose out....so the rumours of a halt on income tax may be true?

Hellsbells123098 · 20/03/2020 08:00

That would be a big move but very welcome on tax. Do you think that would be across the board?

That's the opposite of what needs to happen! The people who actually have jobs still are not the main problem, we should go to basic citizen income or something to cover those losing their jobs, or livelihoods if self employed

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 20/03/2020 08:03

More guff and fluff from a smirking BoZo

ssd · 20/03/2020 08:04

I think a support package for people not working will come in.

I wonder if it’d be an easy way to identify those on lower salaries who pay less tax and just raise the threshold? I have no idea though...

Hellsbells123098 · 20/03/2020 10:08

I’m not sure how they could decide who qualifies and who doesn’t. Maybe the tax free threshold higher. And I also wonder when this would be implemented. March pay day too late but wish it was as due a bonus.

it had better be closing pubs and bars if we are to have any hope at all of being in the (relative) clear by September

LangClegsInSpace · 20/03/2020 10:21

I'm hoping for strong measures on food security

DGRossetti · 20/03/2020 10:23

Nothing of any import. Just last nights with the words in a different order.

Hellsbells123098 · 20/03/2020 10:28

The chancellor is on tonight so I do think there will be something big.

Reassurance on food supplies would be great just to stop people stockpiling.

I have seen whetherspoons have said they will stay open regardless. Idiots

Wasn't he on last night ?

Reassurance on food supplies would be great just to stop people stockpiling.

But they've already done that. Just no one believes them. (Because they're lying)

I have seen Wetherspoons have said they will stay open regardless. Idiots

Yeah, well, he's got to get his return from the government he paid for hasn't he ?

NewChapter11 · 20/03/2020 10:31

"The virus is still spreading rapidly, despite our best efforts in leaving restaurants, bars et al OPEN.."Angry

silverdollarcity · 20/03/2020 10:35

I think we just need to shut everything down because some people aren't really taking notice of the social distancing advice. For example, there were parents at school this morning talking about arranging playdates after school had closed. Pubs advertising locally that they're still open. The leisure centre and trampoline parks also still open.

So what I hope they'll announce is a lockdown, but it doesn't seem likely.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/03/2020 10:37

I have no idea, but with mounting costs, they will probably start making decisions on infrastructure projects? HS2?

DGRossetti · 20/03/2020 10:37

"The virus is still spreading rapidly, despite our best efforts in leaving restaurants, bars et al OPEN..

It would really be quicker to list the things the government have done right, than wrong ... they did come up with "C-19" as a snappy title for the Covid five, I'll give them that. One tick in the "well done" box.

I'm sure there will be more when they get into action by June.

NotDisclosedToday · 20/03/2020 10:40

"Reassurance on food supplies would be great just to stop people stockpiling."

they have done this frequently. doesnt make any difference though.

BackyardChickens · 20/03/2020 10:46

I’m hoping for a lockdown announcement.

Bacardi101 · 20/03/2020 10:48

I have a feeling we will be put on lockdown due to people not listening to advice 😬

Kazzyhoward · 20/03/2020 10:49

Reducing tax is pointless. If people are earning less, they pay less tax anyway, and those very low earners aren't paying tax anyway.

I think we'll see employers being given funding to continue to pay their staff as normal, and claiming it back from HMRC via their PAYE/NIC payments each month.

LucyLocketsPocket · 20/03/2020 10:50

I think London will be locking down this weekend. Pubs, clubs and restaurants will be closed.

BackyardChickens · 20/03/2020 10:53

I hope the private nurseries are next! Breeding grounds.

DGRossetti · 20/03/2020 10:54

I think London will be locking down this weekend. Pubs, clubs and restaurants will be closed.

I doubt it. For various reasons. But mainly because it's hard to imagine how many stupid people there must have been in a room to decide that a lockdown should be announced with pretty much immediate effect and at the start of a weekend.

I'm not saying it's impossible. But unless they've achieved human cloning, there just isn't that enough stupid in the world. And even if it were, the chances of it managing to somehow clump together in the C-19 are astronomical.

No, they'll "let the weekend play out" first.
