I can go for a walk in the woods, can’t I?

It’s sunny today, I don’t know how much longer we will be able to go of at all.
There’s some big woods nearby and if I take the dc for a run around and maybe a picnic that will be ok? We aren’t likely to come close to anyone else. None of us are ill.

We’re being on the very cautious side, but yes, if you stay away from people, it’s fine.

StillCounting123 · 20/03/2020 07:54

In the UK, yes. Outside in fresh air not within 2m of anyone else is fine. In some other countries when things got very bad then there was a state wide quarantine, but we are not at that point yet.

A walk in the forest will do your soul good!

AmputatedSoul · 20/03/2020 07:54

Yes! People are allowed to go out to exercise.
Have a lovely day!

anothernotherone · 20/03/2020 07:56

Of course its ok as long as you keep at least 2 meters from anyone. We walked in the woods yesterday and saw nobody at all during the hour in the woods and four people (whom we didn't go at all close to) walking to and from the woods.

anothernotherone · 20/03/2020 08:00

Some people on other threads and RL are behaving as though hermetically sealing themselves inside is the answer, but its obviously people you have to stay away from, not fresh air! Its the first time in years I've been glad we live in the middle of nowhere!

Yes walking and cycling will be the only thing we can do soon to keep sane. Any ideas for nice walks? I am in London /south east.

Bagelsandbrie · 20/03/2020 08:03

Yes just stay away from people.

We live rurally and are still going out for walks.

BubblesBuddy · 20/03/2020 08:07

The National Trust woods and parks are open I believe. Look at their web site near you. Any footpath or circular walk. Some are way marked. Get on line and look for countryside walks in your area. Canalside or riverside walks are worth a look.

Llareggub · 20/03/2020 08:07

We are going for walks in isolated areas. We just keep away from people.

Lordamighty · 20/03/2020 08:09

We walk every afternoon rather than go to the gym. As long as you are keeping a distance from others it’s fine.

Unescorted · 20/03/2020 08:10

Yeah - we are doing virtual fell races via Strava tracking. It is keeping people sane.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelJackie · 20/03/2020 08:12

The health secretary was on BBC this morning and said it is preferable that people stay at home to slow the spread of infection but if you are asymptomatic and have to go out (and exercise is a legitimate reason) then keep a minimum of 2m/6ft away from people.

namemypuppyplz · 20/03/2020 08:14

Yes, that's fine. If you see someone step back to allow a couple of metres between you.

GnomeDePlume · 20/03/2020 08:33

Yes, go.

In terms of distance keep well apart from others at all times. Wash hands really well when you get back (I know you would anyway)
